FNB mobile device stats surprise

I could swear I saw an article in this last week on MBB that Vodacom's claims 0% growth in Apple devices.. lol... so these FNB clients are all using old devices I guess..

For starters, the Vodacom stats were only iPhone, and the vast majority of the Vodacom users in these stats are on iPad.

Let's decode the stats presented in the story... which is a 2-week old story, and Mybb has only reproduced a portion of it - the full one is here
http://businesstech.co.za/news/banking/42097/fnb-strides-towards-mobile-banking/

These stats are for the website (2.8mil uniques/month), so 10% of that are represented by these stats, that's 280,000 .. 16% of that means about 45,000 iPhones. Let's give Vodacom a 50% stake in that, so that's 22,500 iPhones on Vodacom using FNB website. The numbers are probably small enough for churn and old devices to explain how both the FNB and Vodacom stats can co-exist.

There are a number of issues with the measurement parameters used within this article, that disqualify it as a statement of evidence for your rather sweeping statement. This is why I have corrected it.

If you are going to make generalised statements, don't clarify it with a selective form of proof...

Ok, there are a tonne of resources out there that back the claim. A simple search will provide you with a lot of data around the subject matter. In fact, why don't you ask any game developer, they will tell you similar numbers.
Or if you simply don't wish to believe that Android dominates the lower LSM's and iPhones the higher LSM's, then that is your choice. I really don't care

im an android fan but I have two ipads, the only reason I have them is because there are no android tablets that compete with them

I actually (sadly) agree with you.

The closest for me would the Nexus 10 - but it lacks 3G. So I'm holding onto my iPad 2 until there is something else I can look at

And there I went for the HTC.

Honestly,I will tend to agree with..

...having played around with a colleagues iPad mini recently and finding the whole experience somewhat very smooth and fluid compared to other galaxy 7 inchers I have played around with.

Yup - my experience too.

Big Android fan (best phones by far), but in the Tablet world, Apple still rules.

My Android Tablet is now the kids video player - my Apple Tablet is used everyday for work and leisure activities - restrictive, minimally customisable, no widgets, have to go via iTunes - BUT, the actual user experience is seamless - it just works.

Pity those mini's are so pricey...

Or- you could stop making sweeping statements and providing anecdotal evidence to corroborate it.

That is not what was questioned and you know it. Don't pull a strawman now...

Kinda make sense.

The older, wealthier CEO types generally know nothing about technology and hence, end up with Apple devices. The younger guys still trying to make their worth in this world - and generally more tech savvy - are the ones with the Android.

no surprises here, i see the same distribution on other websites across our client base
yet for some reason some journalists keep announcing that android is killing apple devices... blah blah blah

my explanation is that most android devices are bought by people who don't care and thus don't use their devices to their full potential. Other than that, who really cares who has the bigger market share ?

What in your opinion makes the Ipad so much better than the Android tablets?

I didn't say so much better - I said as much I dislike Apple, there aren't that many great Android tablets (that I know of).

They either lack screen resolution (Samsungs) or if they have it, they lack something else (Nexus)

I have to agree, Android tablets just don't feel complete to me, although I do use mine more than my iPad, but I use my Win8 tablet even more. I guess that's more of a criticism for iOS, which is REALLY old and bleh these days, especially on tablets where you want proper multitasking and a less restrictive environment.

From what I'm reading about the new Nexus 7 in reviews, the tides are turning - Hardware wise, it's superior to the iPad mini in every respect, including a retina display, and $100 cheaper... the Android OS has come a long way, and it's becoming less of an issue for normal users. Interesting times ahead.

Android caters for a much bigger market. From very low end (Think Chinese brands, lol) to high end such as the S4 and HTC One.
Whereas Apple are currently targeting the higher end. To a point this has worked for Apple as their products (from Apple Mac to Ipads and Iphones) became status symbols. Apple however got upset with Androids's growth and realized there is a lower end market out there. Apparently Apple are revising their strategy as there are rumours that a cheap Iphone will be coming out later this year. Should be interesting to follow.

I think the high end smartphone market is rather saturated and the big growth will be in the lower end of the market. As the developing countries (China, Africa, India) are embracing smartphones Android is winning all the way. And Apple knows this. Sure the profits might not be great on the lower market but market dominance might eventually lead to overall dominance (and income from other avenues).

My 2c.

EDIT: JIS my engels is k*k! :)

Dont wait for the Nexus 7. The Sony Xperia Z Tablet is already here and it beats the Ipad in many ways.

Nexus 7 is 7", XPeria Z Tablet is 10"? Not exactly comparable.

The Xperia Z Tablet is probably better than the Nexus 10, but you're paying for that extra goodness.

But we can agree they all beat the iPad :)

Their new look is not aesthetically pleasing at all. I would rather use my app on my S3 to do banking.

Find it funny that there is only the Galaxy as an Android device. Nobody with any other droid phones or am I the only one accessing FNB with my HTC?

Droid is not short for Android. Droid is a brand of phone like HTC One or Galaxy sold in the USA which happens to run Android.
