You can download a statement on any account except a bond. And they will also no longer email you a statements on bonds. There is literally no way to get a bond statement anymore.

Credit card statements and normal account statements must now be downloaded from the system. 3 months back is free, but you pay for every older statement. So if you miss a statement and someone you paid query stuff 5 months down the line, you going to pay to download those statements and if you are not sure exactly when you paid them or if you paid them, you are going to pay to download multiple statements.

This is incredibly annoying.

Now add the fact that you may have a bonded property that you let out, you will have no way of proving to sars how much interest and bank charges you have paid on the bond and may not even be able to calculate those.

Hi All, I see this thread has not died after all!

Anyways, after my rant, post on hello peter and so forth, FNB has without noticed, started sending my statements again to my email address.

For those who wonder, if you have ever worked for CORP, you may have been aware that one way to mitigate risk is to "phase-in" changes. So you divide your users into groups and only make changes to one group at a time, and give that a cool-down period. So some may have had this and other not.

It's sorry that I didn't save a screenshot of that notice back then, but it's one of those FNB App messages, that you can only view for a limited time, and then they disappear off the app.

I've also noticed that there are 2 ways to download your statements on FNB, if you follow the one way, you can only download 3 months' statements for free, if you follow the other way, you can download up to 12 months free (something that Capitec did early on, and I think FNB responded). I think one way is if you go to the Popup menu on the side, and the other is if you select the "Statement" button on the right, next to the account in the account list.

Anyways, I've now downloaded the "missing" statements and they are now sending the new ones each month.

FYI if you have a savings or non-cheque account, they only email you your statement every 3 months but it contains 3 months worth of data. Their (clever) way of saving on paper and in this case internet bandwidth.

They told me many months ago that emailed statements would stop but they never did but yesterday I got an email saying again that they will stop.

It will really suck not to get them emailed, lazy sonabitches, they don't have to post them anymore which was a massive expense and now e-mail is even too much. Fk this bs I pay R160/pm in bank charges I want my statements emailed!!

A bank statement also serves as a tax invoice/statement.

Surely their is an obligation to send invoices/statements to customers?

Credit cards and overdrafts are also debts and does the national credit act not require statements for debts to be sent out every month to customers?

Edit

Just tweeted RBJacobs. Let's see what excuse he comes up with.

According to the NCR, the consumer can choose how documents are delivered and at no cost to the consumer for documents up to 12 months old.

Let's try to complain. Maybe FNB will reverse it's silly action.

A bond as in a home loan? I download my home loan statements from the app.

Last I checked they had an “opt in” feature alongside the initial notification if you didn’t want the emailed statements to stop.

I didn’t mind as I rarely use them so don’t know what happens if you did.

I WANT my statement in the POST !!!!!
Well according the the NCA. The consumer has the right to choose how documents relating a credit agreement like credit cards, overdraft, home loan, etc are delivered and the consumer cannot be charged for the delivery of these documents.

Well in that case... let me rethink my options. :sneaky:

Received a generic reply from RBJacobs asking for my contact number and ID number and that he will look into it and get back to me.

Also sent it to my PC banker.

Section 26 of the CPA prescribes that 'a supplier of goods or services must provide a written record of each transaction to the consumer to whom any goods or services are supplied.

Both the CPA and NCA mandates that invoices and statements must be provided to the client with the NCA giving the client the option to choose as to how this must be provided if it relates to credit agreements.

How much does it cost fnb to email monthly statements that they felt the need to do away with it?

If you need docs for sars... download it as asked. You dont want to pay fees for historical docs

If fnb sends it... or you pull it... fnb wants people to go more digital

Its their info, how you spend etc. If you dont like it... move banks
What are you on about.

The NCA governs credit agreements and if fnb refused to email credit card statements or bank account statement with overdrafts on the clients request then they are not complying with the NCA.
