For those with Plasmas?

You'll get better blacks in Panasonic product - the only one left after Pioneer and Hitachi pulled out. Samsung is an OK company, just that Panasonic beats them.

Shame! I prefer 'entry level' over 'junk' ;) I loved my plasma and raved to everyone about it ...

... but you're right - they were in different leagues. Also, I'm not sure how plasmas have improved from 2007 to 2009?

It may be your burning in process that is causing the issues.
I was told by a few salesman in different stores that you don't have to do a burn-in anymore.
Samsung also say you don't have to, and the reviews on the Samsungs I read also say you don't have to.

Had zero issue with mine so far, only a few weeks though, and I have kuk luck usually.

The burning in process is not harmful at all as all it entails is operating the screen well within its parameters in terms of brightness and contrast levels... I'm aware the burn in process is no longer mandatory but do it as a precaution. I think there a lot of sub standard panels out there. As mentioned before I flog my 42" without any repercussions picture wise but the 50", on its 2nd pane,l is full of s h i t.

You got the 42" Alf?

I have the equivalent to your model but in Plasma, the PS50B650. I absolutely love it. Have the IR issue we were speaking about but hardly even notice it to be honest. Seems to have come a long way...
 
The IR on my screen dissapears very quickly, even after watching lord of the rings wide screen. It's gone very quickly. If it's slightly stubborn, like from my wife watching style channel, then i run the scroller, and gone by the time i'm finished my smoke. All i can say, is both tech's have their drawbacks, but IR shouldn't spoil your plasma experience. I'm more concerned about the dent in the rear frame! I have heard and read, IR dramatically reduces over useage, and i truly believe the more it gets used the better it gets. Every time i switch on my plasma, it looks better to me. Just amazing. I have an LCD too, and it doesn't come close to the picture i have on the plasma.

How is the IR after watching a full game of rugby (80 minutes)?? I'm talking specifically of the score bar displayed at the bottom of the screen...

I suspect Alf experiences 0 effects on his 42" as this seems to be more prevalent on the 50" panels (speculating)...

Mine is usually gone after about 5 to 10 minutes. I have a 50" plasma.

Haven't had that issue yet.
I haven't had the tv on for more than 8 hours at a time, I usually leave it on when I go out in the evening, and haven't seen any burn.

It's got some pixel shift technology which prevents that - that I did switch on.

Yeah that pixel shift is a bit of a gimmick. That won't prevent screen burn IMHO but instead of a single logo burned into the screen you'll have a smudged logo burned in over a bigger area with pixel shift on....

I do believe the 42" is a lot more stable though and it p1sses me off that the 50" is not..

I went through about 60 customer reviews on Amazon before I bought it.
The okes on there don't hold any punches. :)
