MAJOR NETWORK OUTAGES HIT EASTERN CAPE THIS MORNING

A widespread national fibre outage has impacted several parts of the Eastern Cape today, with service disruptions reported across MetroFibre, Herotel, MTN, Vodacom, and various other providers.
Initial investigations have confirmed a major terrestrial cable break between Mossel Bay and George, causing significant service drops across multiple towns and cities relying on that fibre backbone. The fault is linked to national infrastructure managed by WIOCC (West Indian Ocean Cable Company), the fibre carrier for numerous local ISPs.
A second suspected break—between Bisho and Grahamstown—is also under investigation. This dual outage is believed to be responsible for the complete or intermittent network loss experienced in areas such as Gqeberha, East London, Jeffreys Bay, and surrounding communities.
MetroFibre users in both the Western and Eastern Cape are among the worst affected, according to updates from Afrihost and other service providers. The outage began just after 09:00, and engineers are currently on site assessing the damage.

As of now, there is no official ETA for full restoration, but all affected ISPs have escalated the issue, and updates are expected throughout the day.
