I have had a very detailed discussion with an individual that works in the electricity control center that is in charge of switching areas on and off. He has explained to me that due to the severe load of putting areas on and off to accommodate the Summerstrand outage the areas that are able to receive electricity from other substations will receive it for 4 hours on and then 8 to 12 hours off until the Summerstrand 132kV substation is repaired.
With the above being said there are certain areas in the ward that can't be serviced with other substations and unfortunately they will remain off for the duration. I believe this is a section in Humewood and then also Summerstrand from 10th Avenue towards Pine Lodge. There might be more so if you have been off for more than 16 hours then you are more than likely one of these areas.
Now for the bad news... The Summerstrand 132kV substation will only be online at the earliest Monday evening. This is due to the coolant line that accommodates the power line that was vandalized. This coolant line needs to build up pressure slowly otherwise it could cause massive problems for the entire line. There is currently also no schedule of who will be off and when they will be switched back on but if you are off expect to be off for 8 to 12 hours and then on for 4 hours unless you fall in the areas mentioned above that can't get power redirected.
The team is working as fast as possible but also as safely as possible because if they make a mistake entire areas can go without power due to substations suffering severe outages.
I completely understand your frustration due to this and I am also personally affected by the outage so it's not as if I am sitting comfortably whilst the residents of my ward are without electricity.
Please share this far and wide as this is the latest and most accurate update I have received thus far and this is coming directly from the person responsible for switching areas on and off.
