If this is the case I'm going to be extremely pissed off, sitting at home waiting, taking leave to be here. Confirmed my date with Garth 3 times!! I told him nobody can find an entry for Thriftwood for today but he confirmed it again. So yeah i dunno

Speed test from my PC, which is wired to a router that is wired to the main router:

When I ran a speed test using a PC wired to the main router, it got 15ms, 97Mbps down and 11Mbps up.

Wow. I've never seen web browsing like this before. Pages pop into place instantly, with all elements loaded. Not even the NMMU connection behaves like this. Must be the latency?

Lekker! What sort of pings are you seeing to JHB and what's the lowest Cape Town one that you have seen?

I still need to tidy the space with all the equipment. I'll be sure to post pics later though.

It's fairly unexciting stuff though. My ordinary looking router, the ONT device (which looks like an ordinary white router) and a small white box on the wall.

When the one technician got the connection working, he phoned the other one that had popped out for something. I heard him say 'bru I need you here now, it's war here, client is going ballistic, we messed up bad man'. The poor guy returns braced for the worst, only to discover everyone is happy and the connection is testing at 97Mbps lol.

For CT, 15ms is the usual when testing with the PC connected to the new fibre router. My PC is connected to a router identical to the previous DSL router, that I use as a wifi extender. Latency for me is generally 15-20ms.

For Joburg, 30-46ms. Those tests aren't to Telkom or Afrihost though.

Are you connected via gigabit ethernet? Wondering if gigabit may give a few mbps closer towards 100 or not

Not sure. It was a massive mission getting the cable routed as it is, so it won't be replaced for many years. A few megs doesn't mean much when you're over 90Mbps.

The Clientzone says my household did 12.88GB yesterday, which is actually less than the 15.43GB we did on Tuesday. How much someone downloads during the uncapped midnight to 6am window is the main determinant of the usage I think.

If 400GB isn't enough on fibre, it's R200 more per month to upgrade to 600GB on Afrihost. Not too bad.

I'll have to line up some big downloads soon - we can do 65GB in a single 6 hour window now. :D

Does clientzone recognise the fibre line as a different Line number (like 041 xxx xxxx or whatever)?

Whoops, my bad. Yeah you're right. 261.36GB to be precise.

65GB was the upload for 6 hours for another Telkom FTTH user. Was looking at some numbers I'd copied a few months ago and not reading properly.

I can upload 32.4GB in 6 hours at my upload rate of 12Mbps. Will make online backups much more pleasant.
