I think it's safe to assume the guys went home earlier. At least I know that the installation will continue tomorrow morning, what with the big spool of fibre cabling on the ground. Can't wait.

Haha yah 5o'clock is knock-off time.. Sound promising! Hopefully tomorrow we can see some speedtests etc!

I'm still hoping mine will come on Friday and hopefully finish before the weekend!

Great stuff Bryn.

I met the contractor today at 13:30 and we measured out the bill of materials required for the trench.

They coming on Tuesday to do the trenching etc.

Eish, only on Tuesday? Not exactly snappy service.

Are they including the trenching in your once-off installation fee?

Yeah, said they can't come on Friday, so Tuesday is the next time I'll be able to let them have access here.

No mention of costs. When my wife spoke to the two original Telkom Tech's, they said they will speak to their Supervisor and if there were additional costs they would let us know first.

Hopefully the delayed installation at least doesn't cost you more.

The one guy at my place on Monday said that no matter the complexity of my installation, it is free because I'm a DSL subscriber. He said Telkom does fibre 'migrations' for free at the moment. So if they try charge you, see if the migration thing can't win you favour.

A guy from Telkom stopped by early to do some work on the pole in the corner of the property. As far as I can tell, the trunking is all done. So I'm just waiting for someone to route the cable through the house. No one is over at the moment, and the big spool of cabling is still sitting in the side alley.

The pole, with what I assume is slack for this side of the installation. The other side of the pole has white trunking leading up to the top, with a cable entering it.

This is what the trunking looks like:

It'll be painted over when the weather is better. The image shows about a quarter of the total outside trunking.

Looks promising! Hope they can finish yours today!!

They're busy working now. Resumed about an hour ago. They've got two guys here now, but one of them is about to leave to work on the pole that connects to my pole.

Hopefully 4 hours is enough to do all of this. Hard to imagine that it isn't.

I agree, your line should be lit up today!! Super exciting!

If the wise one with his tablet arrives, please remember to ask whether they have an installation at Thriftwood tomorrow

I'm not optimistic that I'll see that guy again tbh. He and his partner were an inspection team of some sort. All the actual work stuff was done by different people. I'll keep an eye out though.

The guys are almost done! They're busy gluing the cable along the final bit in the study. The crew that does the final part of the setup was apparently in Sherwood today, but should be here already.

Damn man you must be aching to get it going! You should send that circuit nr to Garth asap

Good luck

And again I have no fibre!

The Telkom guys said that they need to work on the pole that connects to the pole in the corner of my property. Should be finished by the time they knock off today, but they still need to configure and test my connection.

They said they're doing my neighbours installation early tomorrow morning, and that it's about as easy as an installation can be and should be quick. So apparently I should expect them to come over before midday to finalise my connection. Not sure why they aren't finishing my installation first, but whatever.

they must have done your and neighbours installation at same time

wish they will do my area but most probably last on list (Rowallan park )

The list is determined by when you applied, and you get bumped up (possibly a huge number of places) if they're working on a property that you are closest to. In such cases they try do two installations in a day. They only got to me because they were working nearby. The neighbour placed his order this week, and is receiving his installation tomorrow because he's closest to my ongoing installation. The one guy mentioned that the current order queue is around 80.

Seems like the coverage map was updated again, just hoping they start the Walmer area installation soon and make us "light purple" at least :P

Any updates on the install?

Any updates on the install?

A guy is over atm. He's tested the line with this huge piece of equipment and it is live. There's an issue getting the ONT device's optical light to go green. Apparently another installation crew activated my order by accident on another line, then corrected the number used when the system showed 10Mbps. Somehow this has caused an issue for activating my order on the system though. They're trying to sort it out now.

Oh, and the guy is pretty sure there aren't any Thriftwood installations today. :(

Edit: The ONT has already been commissioned. That's what they're saying on their constant calls to their offices. Sounds like they're going to get me another ONT device if they can't decommission it. And from the current conversation it doesn't sound like their system will let them do that.
