You haven't said how much data you need. If you can get by with 150GB and uncapped midnight data, the below might suit you:

ISPAfrika 20Mbps line - R549pm
Afrihost 75GB - R149pm
Afrihost Plus - R99pm

That's R797pm for 150GB @ 20Mbps, with uncapped midnight data, a Simfy account, 500MB mobile data, soft capping and 2-for-1 topups. And on month-to-month contracts.

If you can manage R80pm more, you can change that to 40Mbps.

That's great! That's more than enough day time data, that's usually what I would use in total for a month on my current account. This would be a crazy upgrade, 2mbps to 20mbps. :D I'm used to scheduling everything at night too, so that sounds perfect.

I'm going to start saving up for the new router and installation costs. Thanks a lot for the help. :)

If you're doing 150GB on a 2Mbit connection, you'll probably do much more on a 20Mbit one though.

Well it's almost been 1.5 months since I ordered my FTTH installation, and I have yet to receive even a phone call from whoever is doing the installation.

I wouldn't be surprised if my order is well and truly lost forever. Might have to get an MTN FTTH connection at some point. They'll probably finish the area installation before my home installation happens with Telkom.

This doesn't give me hope at all. Already cancelled my mobile internet hoping FTTH will be installed by end of Jan. So no internets for me in Feb by the look of things.

Why don't you just reorder. They will have to refund the previous amount.

Good news, is that my WIP has been processed and it sounds like I should be expecting the installation from the pole to the building within the next two weeks (this according to Telkom).

Some good news for once. Sms I received a few minutes ago:

Dear client ENHANCED INTERNET CC, Telkom SA will send a representative to your premises - *my address*, PORT ELIZABETH to fulfil your service request. We have scheduled your new line installation/modification for the 2016/01/29 - please note this is an all day appointment. Please ensure that you have your original ID document and/or letterhead and a certified photocopy thereof ready for presentation when the technician calls at your premises. Please reply @Yes if all the above mentioned is correct or @No if the above mentioned is incorrect and/or date is not suitable.

My fear was that my order might not be lost and I would just throw away my spot in the queue. Just as well I didn't cancel.

There's been quite a bit of wrangling behind the scenes...

Well I really appreciate the effort from whoever is involved!

Can't believe it became such a mission. Have additional controls been implemented to try prevent similar issues with future Telkom FTTH orders?

Awesome man!! Finally the wait is over! Let us know how it goes tomorrow and maybe take some pics as they go along and post it here!!

I'm just glad to see now that things are progressing, hopefully I won't be without internets for the whole of Feb. :D

I see they are digging up my road as well. Heading from the PE golf course area down the road past Newton Tech HS. I'm already on 40Mbit VDSL so not in a rush.

Would we be able to use those new Cybersmart packages on Telkom FTTH?

Surprised at the speeds you get on your 40mbps, my line only syncs at around 32 mbps and I can only achieve 28mbps in speedtests, so I need FTTH to achieve my lines full potential, hopefully Telkom starts Walmer's FTTH rollout soon (As residents have been receiving letters since the end of last year).

Cybersmart has separate packages for Telkom FTTH <---- https://www.cybersmart.co.za/TFTTH/TFTTH-Landing.php

That's a speedy test for 40mbit vdsl..mine only peaks at 39..
What router are you using?

It's clear that my order was messed up though. The time to wait for your home installation might be much less than mine was.

If I'm around, I'll be sure to take some pics if there's anything interesting to look at.

Very possible that the trenches are being dug for MTN fibre. Perhaps just ask the guys what they're up to sometime. Don't get MTN fibre; it's damn expensive.

I'd go with Afrihost and ISPAfrika rather. My 400GB @ 100Mbps costs R1227pm total. Cybersmart has 200GB @ 100Mbps for R1199pm. And they have uncapped/1TB midnight data respectively.

Agreed, I'm also on Afrihost at the moment and they definitely have the best value for money!

No one has shown up yet to do today's installation. I was rather hoping they'd get here early in case they have their work cut out for them with the telephone poles, and in case they knock off early on Fridays. Not keen to have to wait the weekend for the last little bit to be done on Monday.

Just received a call from Telkom. They said they don't know why I received the sms I did, because their system shows my installation as scheduled for Monday. This Monday will be 6 weeks and a day since I ordered... :(

The kicker is that they're currently working on a house up the road. Having the first order in Mill Park didn't turn out to be of any benefit to me unfortunately.

Nonetheless, my installation wouldn't be happening at all if not for some very helpful people behind the scenes. Really grateful to have certain members of the MyBB community on hand when stuff goes wrong.

Damn, this will probably be the longest weekend ever haha! Let's just hope it does indeed happen on Monday.

For me it's just good to hear that installations are in progress. Where I am in the pecking order is a mystery but hopefully late next week or the week after. Going to suck being offline while waiting for installation.

Btw, when will ISP Afrika start billing me? Hopefully only after installation right ?? Have they billed you in these 6weeks you've waited?
