Damn, this will probably be the longest weekend ever haha! Let's just hope it does indeed happen on Monday.

For me it's just good to hear that installations are in progress. Where I am in the pecking order is a mystery but hopefully late next week or the week after. Going to suck being offline while waiting for installation.

Btw, when will ISP Afrika start billing me? Hopefully only after installation right ?? Have they billed you in these 6weeks you've waited?

No billing from ISPAfrika has occurred beyond the installation cost. I would expect ISP's to have some means of detecting when a fibre line is active.

I'm only going to submit cancellation for my DSL line when the fibre installation is done. Had I cancelled around the time I ordered I would have been without internet for 6 weeks.

Yay, good news doe all it seems.

"I finally received confirmation today that the install will take place on the 2 February."

Nonetheless, my installation wouldn't be happening at all if not for some very helpful people behind the scenes. Really grateful to have certain members of the MyBB community on hand when stuff goes wrong.
This is the truth! A MASSIVE shout out for all the assistance! Both on and off the MyBB community. :D

Bryn, did Garth ever mention how far the R1750 installation cost will cover when it comes to cabling? I know a number of the guys are saying the installation covers 15m. Extra is an addiotonal amount per meter.

Nope. He never mentioned anything like that. It will be mildly irritating if such a thing could be a material expense without any advanced notice, but I won't let it stand between me and 100Mbps.

Yeah, I agree. I expect them to get from the pole to the corner of my house (following the current copper cable). I'll run a CAT6 cable from there to the router if need be (happens to be about 15-20m away via the ceiling).

That's awesome news man! Damn I can't wait! When did you order?

Garth also didn't mention anything about installation only covering certain distance so we'll have to see.

I'm thinking of starting a small business with some of the family youngsters (all looking for jobs, except me)....

This issue of providing an entry pipe for FTTH installations is going to become a major problem in PE.

Guess what service I will provide? :p

Would you be able to provide the entire FTTH installation on a residential property? Basically provide a spot for Telkom to just plug in?

Only if Telkom were willing to "in-source" it on a contract basis, which they are not keen to do yet. So the initial phase would be to provide a "dumb" pipe with a draw wire.

Wow guys, I guess things are really starting to happen. Me and Garth have been communicating through their ticket managing system. I sent him a message to follow up for me. He replied yesterday (I only checked now).

His response: "I have just received confirmation from Telkom that they have scheduled your install for 2 February. They had originally scheduled for the 5th."

So it looks like me and MeTsU will be installed on Tuesday. The only strange thing is, I didn't receive any sms from Telkom. If I didn't check for Garth's reply, nobody would've been home on Tuesday. Do hope that they come on Tuesday though, Wed to Fri I'm away...

Sounds good. :D Agreed, I do hope that they can install on Tuesday as someone will be available - I might even be able to pop in at the house quickly to see how things are going.

Also on the 2nd? Hmmm... I think there will be a problem....

Elaborate? Can they only do one per day? Then the info given to Garth is probably not right, because I didn't receive an sms which I though was strange.
Yeah, I haven't received a text message either from Telkom. I do believe though, that it is one installation per day.

I guess it's going to be a roll of the dice on Tuesday then. Going to suck sitting at home and nobody showing haha, oh well.. We'll wait

I wasn't even aware that home installations had a complication of such a nature. And I assumed that whatever needed to happen could be done in one day and was included in the installation fee.

My FTTH cable will be running exactly where my existing Telkom cable does. That is, around a section of the house, hanging across a portion the garden and then pole to pole to the splitter/whatever the special telephone pole is called.

Is your service aimed at providing subterranean tunnels then? I assume that's where the draw wire comes in?

Isn't it a difficult service to charge for if Telkom charges everyone for installation anyway?

The guys who stopped by for a few minutes on Friday did mention that my installation might carry on the following day. Sounded like they were nervous about how quickly they could link up the telephone poles with fibre. Something about needing a contractor of theirs to clear some foliage somewhere beyond my property.

While fibre can most definitely be placed overhead on poles, it is not the first choice neither advisable. The old copper wire would run through trees and rub up against branches and it would be okay for years... not so with fibre. After a few months of been "violated" that fibre will be kaput.

In many areas there is no overhead infrastructure. And new customers won't have any ducts on their property. Trust me when I say that Telkom will not install new ducts in those cases. If there is an an existing service they will install the ducts...

Im in Thriftwood near Baywest. Seeing as this complex is plot&plan build as you buy the contractors for the complex catered for infrastructure. So my fibre is underground. When they installed the infrastructure early 2015 and built a manhole for the splitter or whatever in front of my place he showed me the draw wire running to my house and where it ends up.

Now by the looks of things, I'm not really positive about having my installation done on Tuesday just taking into account Bryn and MeTsu's is also scheduled for Mon+Tue. What I do hope though is that my installation will be much less complicated (no poles, no need to find an entry point into my house, and my place is quite small so I'll probably use like 10m max of the 15m if you count up and down walls as well) but this is all speculation of course. Will have to wait and see.
