It amazing how fuel efficient modern engines are, 1.5L isn’t like a 1L baby engine that many manufacturers rely on to get goof fuel economy.

Technically, it's not that great. My 2L diesel from 2000s offer 3x torque with better fuel consumption hehe

Diesels are in another ballpark but a 1.5L petrol getting around 6L is awesome.
 
The HONDA CRV has a 2.0 litre engine and a CV gearbox. Its also quite a heavy car, if you compare it with a similar sized Mazda

By keeping engine revs low (2000 rpm at 110km/hour and if you take it easy on acceleration, its not difficult to see 7.4 litres/100km

There is an "ECO" setting. It appears to make little difference, except perhaps acceleration is curtailed

I always use synthetic oil and run the tyres at 2,5 bars

The Almera’s 1.5l petrol engine isn't even all that modern. The N17 generation Almera was released in 2011 and the engine itself was used in the C11 Tiida from 2004.

This engine is a big step forward compared to the Tata Indica's engine though.
 
Those 1500cc Turbo Petrols, be it the cheaper Chery's or the Haval Jolion, are not light on fuel...
Body too big for the 1500 so the Turbo helps dump huge fuel down its throat to get it to move...

VW seems to have gotten it right with their consumption on their Crossovers. I wonder if they aren’t maybe using excess fuel to keep preignition from happening at higher compression ratios

13.2 km / liter
1000km on a tank
 
My 2015 Ford Fiesta 999cc ecoboost w/95 RON.

Had to go from JHB south to PTA last week, got 4.8L/100km @120KM/h

Currently on 5.8L/100km urban driving, did not reset it since the PTA trip.

I normally get ~600km on a tank, sometimes 630KM.
