Fuel consumption

Did a trip to JHB on Sunday, on the way there I got 15L per 100km. On the way back Monday morning it was a bit better. Was misty.

I am really surprised by my 3.0TDI in my A6
Freeway I see low 5s per 100Kms
Yesterday I went to the office in Sandton from the West Rand alot of traffic light were out so did see traffic, in the afternoon it took me 90minutes to get home with all the traffic and the car returned 11.2L per 100kms, when traffic opened up I did drop the hammer most times. On a normal day city driving I can get about 7 to 8 litres per 100kms.

I did a trip to KZN earlier in the year and used 6.2L per 100Kms Average @ 120KmH

Not bad for a 3.0 V6 weighing in almost 2 tons.

My 1.0 Fiesta Ecoboost Powershift used to return around the same fuel usage.

Congrats on the new car, lovely vehicles.

Fck me, what car is this?

Golf GTI.

The 11.4 average was after my wife's commute in traffic yesterday.
She drives slow but trying to get her to drive more economically.
Too much accelerating, late braking, and failure to maintain speed are what I noticed affect consumption the most.
She gets 7.5 average with our Picanto and I get 6.5 with the same car even though I drive it much harder

Most recent long drive was JHB to Nelspruit. Average of 5.2l/100km at 120km/h while not really trying to save fuel. I average 6.6l/100km in town, including fast (legal) driving to respond to incidents, etc. This is with a Renault Sandero Stepway 0.9tce
Got that with my Clio in 2020 driving down to the coast, my 45l tank held down there and some driving around there as well.

Lowest number I’ve recorded in a while on the pre-LCI of the exact same car. Open road on the M1 to be fair.

Your average speed was that high, but you averaged 10.3 l/100km? Its either you were well over the speed limit or were on Sport+ with some proper aggressive driving.

If your consumption on a M2 is below 12l/100km you aren't driving the car the way its meant to be

Eco Pro mode in a performance model is a crime.

Wow! also the DSG?
I managed 6.9 yesterday which is my lowest ever.

Hectic.

Did this trip start and end on an open road?
DSG?

Yesterday I went for a short trip about 30km on mostly highway driving 90-100 and averaged 6.4 which was my best ever until I was about 1km away from home, got bored, and ended up with 7.0.

Lol 6.9 isn't even that impressive for me anymore. Don't get me wrong, its a great number considering what the car is capable of, but I believe getting lower than that is not that hard on a highway heavy trip. But to be fair, Johannesburg's M1 is pretty flat for the most part with the exception of the stretch between Grayston and Marlboro which is a slight climb.

The route that I recorded 4.7l/100km included about 3km stop and go, 19km open road, and about 2km stop and go again. That's my route back from work.

Sorry, more questions.
What speed were you traveling at? any software done? and what rim size?
Edit: I see your average speed was 58kmph so I guess that makes sense.

My car is standard with the Santiago 19s and even on a flat road maintaining 90kmph steadily, my real-time consumption hovers around 5.2
I would probably only get less if I were on a flat road driving around 60kmph since that is where I noticed consumption is at its least.
