Getting Fibre, Need a router.

Just throwing in my 2c here.
Have you looked at Ubiquiti's EdgeRouter Lite range? They're awesome!!

I had a TP-Link 8980 in my home network setup on ADSL 4MB and when fibre was installed a few weeks back I just connected from the CPE to the WAN port of the router changed the mode from Modem to Router and everything works fine - full 50/50 broadband on the whole network, brilliant.

I was having visions of having to re-do all my network settings when changing routers, but all works as it should, plus I have a spare router from the ISP install. This fibre speed is amazing!

My ISP is bundling a Tenda FH307 WiFi router. Whats the thoughts on this?

Long range and good throughput for multiple devices

Then it'll probably work.
Also depends on your devices though, if you're looking for a router that's somewhat future proof then this isn't it, as it only offers 2.4GHz in terms of WiFi and no Gbps ethernet.

Hmm.

I will be connecting some cellphones, tablets, and a few laptops. Maybe a TV in the future.

If you aren't paying anything for it, I guess you can sell it.
But no 5GHz and no Gigabit ethernet would put me off.

Any recommendations for something that meets my requirements and has 5Ghz and Gigabit Ethernet? Hopefully something under R1k?

What's wrong with your Archer? I have one(D7 with the ADSL modem) and it's the best gadget I've ever owned.

+1 I also have the D7 or more like had, lightning got hold of it this past Wednesday evening. Got everything you need, gigabit Ethernet, AC wifi and it's rock solid. Depending what my insurance say I'll probably upgrade to the D9, I see it's not that much more expensive than the D7, plus one day when I eventually get fiber i'll be ready for it.

If no decisions have been made yet, we would no doubt recommend the DrayTek Vigor2860ac from your original post ;)

Unless there is a DSL connection that you would be looking to load-balance/failover with, you could also opt for the slightly more affordable Vigor2925ac which has 2xEthernet WAN ports rather than the Vigor2860's 1xEthernet WAN and 1x DSL ports.
Both series feature 2x USB ports for 3G/LTE dongle fail-over.

Feel free to shout if you'd like any info on the product, in regard to features or technical support.

Cheers

Where did you find a price on the D9?
