What connection do you have and is it provided by Screamer?

I originally signed up for a 256kbps uncapped connection at R850/m.

They (Screamer) then upgraded the network and everybody got 512 but also capped. I see they are offering new packages. I am thinking of migrating to an uncapped 128kbps. Just waiting for the petrol price to go down some more.:p

Hi...howzit...hey...sup. Looking at getting wimax, i stay in Bedfordview area. A few questions...is screamer stable? Is there much downtime? If there is a problem how quickly do they respond? Are the pings good for gaming? - i mainly play dota, local and int. Do they offer unshaped accounts?

As a previous customer let me answer your questions.

Good going Bboy !! They were out, sleeping, off line or just plain and simple........non-existing in most of the country this week. Dare to brag about having "more than 70 branches and over 500 repeater sites country-wide"...........not even to mention that they are BEE !! I challenge Screamer to list all their so called BEE board members on their website !! Pathetic company this is !!

I think there could be lots of people which could have negative comments regarding their past experiences with GWI. The very existance of this thread is evidence thereoff.

Yet for the last couple of months they have been very helpfull. One again, send Howzit a pm I am sure he would be able to help. Or would you rather just moan and bitch about things?

I am glad I stuck it out with them. The wireless solution is ideal for what I need at the moment. My connection has been running pretty smooth recently and I am downloading at over 56kbps sometimes.

As for the BEE thing, I don't care if the owner is green, as long as he can provide the service I am paying for. Its a consumer thing not a political one.:D

Thanks Howzit - your team came out to our house this morning and established that we have very good WiMax LoS and signal strength.

Now to determine which package and hope that all is well ... remember this is for gaming ...

Btw - can you clear up the following:
(1) What speeds are being offered on the capped service? Only the uncapped service is advertised with speed choice. The price doesn't bother me but I am nervous to sign a 24-month contract atm. Which brings me to question 2

(2) Are the capped contracts from month-to-month?

(3) Are you prices inclusive of the line and ISP? Seems to be both so can I purchase the "line" from you and account elsewhere?

Perhaps the sales staff will know but experience with most sales staff (not a Screamer statement) is that they are unlikely to know more than the website.

People have a right to know how these guys treated their clients in the past.
Their service sucked , but their attitude sucked even worse.

Well, if they improved it (which from what I can understand they did), then everyone has the right to know about that as well. If you are not a current Screamer member, don't say anything. I also understand that they used Wifi and have only recently moved over to WiMax. I don't know how good/bad Wifi is, but I personally know that WiMax is da shyte. :D

Hi there

(1) You can request whatever speed you want to be provisioned on the capped services. Just remember that if you have kids that are downloading they can get through a cap using a 4Meg link very quickly:p
Only the uncapped services had a 24 month contract restriction but we received a memo this morning from management that that was also being removed this Wed so all packages are now on a month to month basis.

(3) We don't have a "line only" option and our packages include line and services. Is there any service you need that we dont offer at highly competitive rates?

Thanks - I spoke to a salesman today that actually knew his stuff :p and gave me the same info.

The reason I was planning to go with someone like WebAfrica for the services portion was due to the good feedback on this forum (generally).

However, with no contract on an uncapped service from Wednesday I will take the plunge and see how it works out.

My router was struck by lightning TWICE these past two weeks and the local agent bent over backwards to acommodate me. Thanks Freeg!:D

Democracy some would call it............the right to know and freedom of speech. I am a proud black South African, ANC member, and would like to AGAIN challenge Screamer, to list their BEE members and telephone numbers !! Come on howzit, have you got what it takes to list the names?? I want to phone one of them to explain my problem with Screamer's bad attitude and how they treat the people who started GWI with them in the past. I heard that Eddie Funde (Ex Chairman of the SABC Board) was a member of the past GWI board.............true or false?? I think I will give my comrade a call in the morning myself. Do you still think this is a consumer thing rebel998?? Wake up!! SA rugby is no longer just a sport you know.......Sweat dreams my fellow pseudonyms!!

Regular disconnects again today. Support says techs are working on basestations. Hope they knock off early.:D

Sorry guys, We are doing major upgrades on our towers and are trying to do them without any downtime but there will be a few disconnects.:sick:
