They installed this week for me and I should be provisioned today. Service is very friendly and seems to be good but having said that I am not online as yet. They have upgraded the basestation near me, which I understand is the reason for the delay.

Will keep everyone updated when I am online as to the reliability and latency aspects (hopefully tonight) ....

What kind of equipment did they install?

They were adamant that they can't help you if you want to use your own ISP, so I am still with telkom :(

One's first question is: why would you want to pay twice for the same thing? I kept my original dial up (Polka)account when I joined GWI way back when, because I did not want to lose my e-mail adresses. But I still use Screamer to connect and download my mail. Why don't you do the same?

I pay something like R75 for this "luxury" a month and it's still cheaper (and faster)than dial up. And at present Screamer is delivering where Telkom can not. We haven't had landlines for about seven months because of cable theft now.

In the new year I'll be doing voice with Screamer as well. Even after the initiall hassles I had, the wireless solution still works out better.:D

Do you guys know if Screamer is open this time of year?

Called them just now and no-one answered. The IVR wanted to take my number but their mail-box is full!

Battled most of today.Earlier call to support revealed there was "a tower down somewhere".

Then later I could not even pick up a signal. After calling support again, I hear they're working on the tower it should be up by 9. Still nothing,so I guess it's tomorrow morning.

Clearly a major job, an early warning would've been nice.(and saved me countless resets & rescans):D

You back again halfwit:D

I see you have climbed off your racist platform and have now decided that the poor are a target for your abuse. If Screamer are employing the homeless I applaud them.
Perhaps one of them replaced you when you were fired?

lol!!!:D

Thought you might want to see what I have just sent to screamer.
I'm going back to Telkom, they might be dogs but at least you get what you pay for.

To whom it may concern.
Please do not bother to bill me next month or ever again for that matter. I have had my Telkom land line disconnected 2 years ago due to their incompetence and moved over to GWI/Screamer. I have recommended your service to quite a few of my friends and we all have the same complaints about your service. Since December 08 I have had no connectivity what so ever. Tech support is as helpful as a knife in the eye and I am tired of hearing that the problem is on my side. When I ask for a call out, they tell me that my hardware is 100% and when I call Tech Support they tell me the tower I connect to is also in working order. Underneath you will see what my ping times have been for the past couple of days each time I have tried and access my connection.
My username is ******* and I connect to the ******* tower in ******.

*******

PS. A friend of mine pays for the 256kb 3gig cap same as mine, but has a download rate of 280kb, how do you explain that?

truesouthafrica have you checked your signal strength?

Wireless is a tricky business. As you can see from my previous posts I was not happy with what I got at the start. Yes sure the support guys can BS you because he knows the technology and you don't. Change that.

When I first got my connection I knew nothing about wireless technology, but I soon started learning. Good thing I have some technical background. This enabled me to check up on things like my signal strength, noise to signal ratio etc, etc.

Yes I have spent quite a bit of time on my roof but took this as a learning experience. Understanding how it all works made a huge difference! I still get slow speeds at times but now know that I get poor signal. I intend lifting my antenna and connecting to another tower closer to me.

Concerning the service you're getting from support, have you tried sending a pm to howzit? I have gotten to know the local agents by now and have a good relationship with them. This also makes a huge difference.:D

By the way rebel, robot beggars earn more than you probably would dream of earning !!

Is there no political forum somewhere, where you can go stir? Instead of boring everyone with personal insults why don't you pm me and we can see who can be more insultive.:D

Still no reply from screamer on the mail I sent, what a surprise. Rebel I had signal problems, they came out and moved it and it was much better, but there is a password on my router so i cant access it which is bs since i payed for the damn thing! So no i cant check my signal strength when ever i want.
