HelloPeter telecoms ratings: The best and worst

I think that this would be more indicative of service satisfaction if the compliments and complaints were set against total subscriber base... the ratio of complaints to compliments is pretty useless unless the total pool is taken into account methinks...

Telkom doesn't respond to complaints on HelloPeter so probably shouldn't even be on the list.

The ratio doesn't indicate the service levels of the companies, only the ratio of compliments to complaints, nothing more, nothing less.

In my experience Vodacom responds with a template reply and you are lucky to hear from them again. MTN is even worse.

Yup, I understand that it is only compliments to complaints... but that is like saying;

I have found that I only have four 50c coins and thee 10c coins in my wallet. Pretty meaningless.

Is it that Telkom has fewer complains or that people are tired of complaining?

Absolutely shocked that anyone could come in worse than MTN !

Agreed!

Obviously complaining about a company on HelloPeter does show how a company perform?!

To be honest, I was surprised to see mtn that high up, and as for the rest, no real surprises...

Telkom has been working a bit better in my opinion as they under promise and over deliver.

Say adsl will take 4-6 weeks to install, they call in 2 weeks to say its done and people are impressed. So less complaints...

Makes sense.

Something not many people know is that Hello Peter banned Telkom from responding to complaints, as they were resolving complaints too frequently and so reducing the 'bad publicity' that drove so much traffic to this extortionate website.

This table is yet another statistical fail by mybroadband. You can't make up your own metrics and then use it to prove A is better than B. How is Cell C number 1 when they have over 3700 complaints compared to others with far fewer complaints. Also, Cell C has the least subscribers, so 3700 is a far bigger slice of their customer base.

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics.

Telkom have pretty good service in my opinion especially compared to the useless call centres at the cell providers. They have really put in some effort over the last year. None of changes the fact that their offering are hugely overpriced.

Interesting... I stay in the Somerset West area and have eight ADSL lines. My experience was they took 3 weeks on five of the lines over the past few years. The last three were different. Two were installed four weeks ago the day after I phoned them to come, and third line was installed yesterday which was a "whole day" after I phoned them. Maybe our Telkom technicians have nothing to do? :-)

A "template response" would not influence the ratio.

This ratio is a valid measurement, especially as it's taken in relation to other service providers, i.e. everyone is measured the same. Even if the methodology is not perfect.

But a more interesting ratio would be number of complaints / subscriber base. That will give a more accurate "Service Level" metric.

HelloPeter is a whole lot of B.S.

People tend to always complain much more than they compliment. Good service is taken for granted and people have a b!tchfit and complain like nags when things are'nt going their way.

A ratings service is'nt going to work when you have large amount of customers that never pay a compliment.

What else should we do?!
Where can we complain?!
If you think that of HelloPeter, don't visit the site or comment in a thread about them.....

I have no idea about the subscriber numbers, but guess (emphasis on GUESS) Cell C might push iBurst off the top of the leaderboard. Sorry, "leaderboard" is an oxymoron in this case- no idea what you call the board where the baddies are at the top!

As above, service levels could be measured by #complaints/#subscribers.

If you calculate the % of subs per network who complain on HelloPeter, you get something like:

Neotel - 1.4%
iBurst - 1.2%
Telkom - 0.14%
Cell C - 0.12%
MTN - 0.04%
VC - 0.03%

Interesting that the bigger the operator, the lower the complaint ratio. The smaller guys suffer the most (Neotel and iBurst).

This most likely indicates the big boys have more money to spend on call centers.

A valid measurement using a flawed methodology is pretty meaningless...

Not really. You can use a sub-set of metrics to measure something, but then cannot use the absolute numbers. But you can use it in a comparative analysis, i.e. you apply it to all.

Have you ever been on Hellopeter to compliment any service provider or are you like so many others that only logon to complain ????
