HelloPeter telecoms ratings: The best and worst

A valid measurement using a flawed methodology is pretty meaningless...

I have no idea about the subscriber numbers, but guess (emphasis on GUESS) Cell C might push iBurst off the top of the leaderboard. Sorry, "leaderboard" is an oxymoron in this case- no idea what you call the board where the baddies are at the top!

Loserboard.

As above, service levels could be measured by #complaints/#subscribers.

If you calculate the % of subs per network who complain on HelloPeter, you get something like:

Neotel - 1.4%
iBurst - 1.2%
Telkom - 0.14%
Cell C - 0.12%
MTN - 0.04%
VC - 0.03%

Interesting that the bigger the operator, the lower the complaint ratio. The smaller guys suffer the most (Neotel and iBurst).

This most likely indicates the big boys have more money to spend on call centers.

Personally Neotel is a big fail...

Have you ever been on Hellopeter to compliment any service provider or are you like so many others that only logon to complain ????

No I have not. To be brutally honest.
Good point.

Some of the complains are silly. Standard Bank received a complain of a customer after he signed up using
the fake security emails, sent by ABSA FNB STD etc. He lost I think R 850.00 Rand and expects STD to
give him his money back. There are more similar cases of complains which are silly. But in principle I agree
such a site might help. What other can cutomers do? So support the Site, my guess

HelloPeter is a whole lot of B.S.

People tend to always complain much more than they compliment. Good service is taken for granted and people have a b!tchfit and complain like nags when things are'nt going their way.

A ratings service is'nt going to work when you have large amount of customers that never pay a compliment.

Totally correct. This rating is just slilly. People will always take time to complain. Never to say thanks.

Considering that every company has a different number of subscribers, the more subscribers the higher the odds that people will have something to say, so the higher the number of people who actually say something at all.

Turning the data they had into ratio's is just one of many ways of interpreting the data, but with things as tricky as they are I think it's quite relevant. Unless you embark on expensive research as opposed to using automatically generated statistics, you will never get a truly reflective result. At least these ratio's give us some idea as to what ratio of customers bother going on hellopeter to say something good about the service providers.

I for one fully agree with the placements of Telkom, MTN and Vodacom. I find Telkom to be easier to get hold of these days and not nearly as useless. MTN on the other hand have completely outgrown their customers and I've had endless crap with them.

People always have something to complain, when you receive bad service you sure to make fuss about it genuine or not

when is all good whos has time to compliment any one really!

Is that just genetic? i know we all learn how to say please and thank you...

But when it comes to giving credit when its due we often fail miserably as individuals.....

Complaining is such a waste of energy.... it seems the more you complain the longer it takes to resolve anything ...

Hi Kilobitsperyear

I assume you have solid proof of this? It is a rather serious accusation against both HelloPeter/Peter Cheales and MyBroadband...

I guess the fact that we have not spoken to HelloPeter for months (may be over a year- not certain) does not impress you much? Would not like pesky facts to get in the way of your wild and unfounded accusations I guess ;)

Calling it a "serious accusation" seems a little harsh. What is so serious about it? Thousands of media outlets get paid by thousands of companies every second to print articles. Is that not how it all works anyways?

@ RPM

When did mybb break this story ?

Was in on other media platforms first ?
This is the first report, but we often report on HelloPeter stats (as we do on the stats of various other online platforms). I just don't understand why someone would make wild accusations when we clearly just used the latest stats and did an article on it. What is fair is to criticize the article or stats, but why on earth kilobitsperyear wants to accuse MyBB of rather serious things I just don't know.

rpm, it seems in any community there are always members who seem to contribute nothing but negativity.

If mybb publishes an article that shows, for example, Telkom doing better than Vodacom, mybb is being paid off by Telkom.

The next article might show the opposite on another topic. Now suddenly Vodacom is doing the paying.

Mybb must be the only organisation that constantly get payed bribes by EVERYONE! :)

Reality is these people seem to live extremely sad and insignificant lives and their only outlet appears to be these type of comments. I often wonder if they're just jealous or if it is a symptom of a wider inferiority complex they suffer from?

Back on-topic: Could you do a more accurate calculation on the table I posted above? I don't have the exact subscriber numbers but you'll have them.

Will it be cool in your job if you are accused of taking bribes if you wrote a report or appointed a supplier - especially if it is false? And publicly no less?

The sad part is that we never see any money – must speak to our bribe collection department…I think these companies are getting away with not paying us anything :D

:wtf:

Name some of these "thousands of media outlets" who get PAID to run stories by the "thousands of companies".

We all clearly misunderstood the whole press setup.

No wonder the President wants to impose a Media Tribunal.

BY the way, if a article is run that is paid for it is clearly marked as "ADVERTISING". If it's written by the publisher it's marked an "ADVERTORIAL".

A dishonest "Bribe Collection Department".....who would have thought! :)

In the scenario:
How is getting paid by HelloPeter to write this story bad? You are not distorting any facts for money. If the story was about HelloPeter being the best website in South Africa, I would have understood your reaction.

...anyways... almost ready to go home here in lazy, laid back Perth. It is 39degrees outside!

I think what should have been shown is the ration of complaints that become compliments. That would be a better indication IMO.

Having complaints is inevitable. Turning those complaints into compliments shows that you're committed to customer service.

People don't use Hellopeter to compliment...

Aaaah!... Now I see the light. Never too dumb or too old to learn...

Is it that Telkom has fewer complains or that people are tired of complaining?
There is no question that Telkom has upped their game significantly over the last 7-10years... I'm generally impressed with the service I get from them.
