Huawei P6

Price for that screen is good. From some private guy I got a quote of R1400 for an iPhone 5 screen

Just got myself one of these yesterday :) Coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note 2... Really nice phone, amazing size and absolutely beautiful! A lot more smooth than my Note 2 was and the RAM usage is also a lot less :)

My wife has had the phone for six and a half months and still extremely happy with it.
I updated it to B125 (full flash rather than OTA so back to default settings) last week and it has made a massive difference (previously on B119). Overheating has (mostly) stopped, battery life much better and lag has mostly disappeared.

There have been a lot of complaints about the P6 “overheating” but I have used all the firmware from B111 up and have never experienced a crash no matter how hot it feels nor do I know of anybody that have experienced it. The good and bad of having a metal housing is what it conducts heat very well drawing the heat away from the CPU and GPU much more efficiently than any plastic housing causing the phone to feel hot while its components are kept well below 100 degrees Celsius. My P6, at times, feels much hotter than my Sony V, which use to crash, but have never crashed. Remember the only way that firmware can cool down a phone is by throttling the CPU and GPU according to the temperature it detects, leading to lower performance. I have proved this by cooling the P6 before a benchmark test and getting much better results than running a test at a temp. of lets say 30 degrees.

Is there no official release as of yet? Don't feel like messing with unofficial stuff like I did with my Note 2... Bricked it twice (and luckily fixed it both times)

Then how did you get B119? Because that were also an “official leaked" firmware that became available in November 2013, the only official non-Chinese firmware available on the Huawei site is still B111. I got my P6 with B107 but when I checked there were no OTA available and I had to download the B111 from Huawei and installed it manually. I am now on an “Official leaked” B125 that I installed as per Huawei instructions.

The wait is almost over for Hauwei Ascend P6 owners for get the latest version of Android. China Mobile customers are already rolling out Android 4.4 Kitkat and an wider launch is coming!

Huawei Ascend P9 users were promised Android 4.4 Kitkat all the way back in January, but it is only today that Chinese customers (and only those on China Mobile) are receding the update!

Like the previous version of Android on the P6, Android 4.4.2 KitKat has been treated to Huawei’s own Emotion UI skin (like it or not) bringing their own feel to the OS.

The bad news is that only China Mobile users i.e. TD-SCDMA phones are getting the update, and this isn’t the OS international users need for their phones, so you will have to wait for the China Unicom WCDMA update. The good news is that those who have tested the update say it is very smooth and stable.

Thanks to Sami for the tip.

Bought it like that... Secondhand

Just bought myself one of these after deciding to lend my support to other manufacturers (been a Samsung user for a while now). First impressions? Beautiful to look at and feels great. Much better build quality than the Samsungs. Not sure how I feel about the Emotion UI yet, but I might just need some getting used to it.

It is incredibly well priced. Got this for R199 per month with R100 airtime and 100mb data per month through Vodacom.

Now I await the updates to 4.4

Has anyone rooted and flashed this phone yet? Is it as easy as flashing and rooting a Samsung? I previously flashed my S2, S3, Note 2, Note 10.1 and a few others without a hitch and I'm hoping this is as easy...

Schit. This P6 keeps freezing my Wi-Fi network. Every time it connects the wifi pretty much stops almost entirely for every device on the network. It's somehow screwing with the TP-Link router Wi-Fi somehow. Very odd. Very infuriating. And might warrant me returning it and changing back to Samsung...:(

I'll try a firmware update once to B125 to see if it resolves the issue...

Crisis averted. First updated to B125 firmware (official) and the Wi-Fi problems persisted. Would freeze the entire network every time I connected. Then tried to flash TWRP recovery via ADB and Fastboot but the B125 firmware has a locked bootloader. So I downloaded the latest 4.4 KitKat beta firmware, flashed it, rebooted, then tried to flash TWRP again and it worked. The KitKat firmware does has an unlocked bootloader. Now downloading GAPPS for 4.4 to flash and all should be well again.

So in trying to get the Wi-Fi working properly I landed up with a rooted, 4.4 KitKat phone with the latest Gapps. Awesome...

It's weird that you had an issue with your Wi-Fi. The only issue I've read of, and experienced myself, was that the Wi-Fi connection would disconnect on the device, even though it was set not to. That bug was fixed in firmwares after B118, if I'm not mistaken.

Welcome to the world of KitKat, and waiting with everyone else for the official release :D

@ DJ...

I also own a P6 as a personal phone. The mentioned Wi-Fi problems are a real issue which they concluded to be resolved with B118 as mentioned by miz-pimp. I'm lucky to have never experienced any issues with my P6.

Which Emotion UI do you have installed, v2.0 or v2.3? As I understand with the international 4.4.2 rollout that only v2.0 will be included, where v2.3 will release somewhere down the line. I'm anyway utilising Aviate.
