Huawei P6

Can it be downloaded for installation anywhere ?

I don't recall anyone getting OTA kitkat? I feel there's only a slight chance
You must remember that for most manufacturers the local service providers have a say in your ota.

From what I recall, only Apple, Google and HTC have a middle finger policy when it comes to updates and local providers. They do not allow the local providers to sit with updates an an overly extended testing process. Why do you think Samsung updates are so far behind.

So while there is an official kitkat update available for the P6, Huawei is unlikely to be the reason you don't have it yet.

Also there has been no official woord from Huawei with regards to kitkat updates that I have seen online.

Fair enough but then again, the same issue will happen if Huawei releases lollipop

Most certainly, the local guys are useless at approving updates, which is why I switched from Huawei to HTC.
Its also why I will not buy Samsung again, other than the fact that somehow they manage to turn a 1gb OS into an 8gb one.
Have not dealt with other brands so have no info or opinion on them. All I know is that by end of Jan my M7 will be updating to Lolipop, weather or not Vodasum likes it.

I ordered this phone today via cellc on the smartchat 1gb package, the reviews looked good and at R169pm i simply could not find a better value for money phone, but reading the user comments on gsmarena is worrying me, it sounds like this is a real piece of crap...can anyone comment??, must i update the phone when i get it, or just leave it on its original firmware and 4.2.2?
Must i cancel the order?

I found the phone boring on 4.2.2.

I updated it to kitkat and it was really awesome.
Keep in mind you need a sd card to update the phone manually ,not sure if South Africa has the update yet.

The phone was fast and battery life was good .
The UI is little bit different but nothing major.

Thanks for the response,
Do i need to install any firmware updates before installing kitkat?, and will i use the the euro kitkat?
Have you had any issues with this phone?

Dude, that's expensive. The p7 is 199 at Vodacom and its a far better phone, and it's at least getting lollipop, not that you are likely to see an official update in SA, Huawei are the only guys slower than Samsung with updates in SA, but that's not thier fault, our local providers Suck donkey testes. They have to approve the update, which is usually done next about 6 to 8 months after they mind the map with directions to thier Angus so that they can then remove thier finger from it.

Yeah 199 if i take the pink one, otherwise its R280, both with 0mb. Sure they give me R100 airtime, but i cant use that to buy data.
Are you happy with your P6?

Don't have it anymore and did not use the stock firmware for very long either. Was a good phone, but official software support is dismal, not that we can blame Huawei.

It's good with what your paying for it, but I would personally pay more to get something better, if you compared the M8 and P7,couple of bucks more on contract, but device comparison, those few bucks mean the difference between a Ferrari and an Atos.

There is nothing that overwhelmingly better term at a similar price unless you go samsung, and then the phones only better if you void your warranty and put on proper software so that the phone can actually run at its full potential instead of being bogged down by the combination of Samsung staffs idiotic ideas of good features.

On the plus side, you can safely drop a p6,not something you can do with a post S3 samsung.

Thanks for the reply.
Currently im paying +- R600pm on my old iphone 5 contract which expired the 24th of this month. I'm trying to save money so keeping it as cheap as possible, i did however rather go for the smartchat 3GB, so going to pay R270pm with the P6. Going over this amount i can then just as well get a iphone 6, so really trying to save some cash here.
In that price range there is honestly nothing better that gives me the same value. Telkom mobile has some nice contracts, but their phones are limited, my second choice would have been the Xperia M2, but i feel the P6 is superior to the M2.
The other phone is a Lumia 730, which is nice, but im currently using a 1320, even though i love this phone, the lack of apps, and the quality of available apps are just not acceptable.

Go for the P6. It's a decent phone and I preferred it to the S4 Mini by a long shot!
As soon as you get it, go to www.huaweinews.com and find the latest firmware for the international P6. Download that and copy it to the SD card.
On the phone, go to settings and then software update and you'll see an option for s local update or something like that.....

Just read the instructions on the site very carefully - some updates require a newer version than what is currently installed in order to upgrade to the latest...

A friend got a P6 at launch and has no online updates but isn't on a new enough version to jump straight from where she is now to go straight to kitkat
