iBurst Open DC++ Hub FAQ/GUIDE

Noooo, the COMPLETE address is "katatafish.com:4482"

Meaning, type it in exactly like that. No http:// or anything else added.

lol...what exactly does it say?
maybe change your nick and see?

The hub was down. Its now back up though! :D

Indeed you do.

Coming on uncapped is just wasting bandwidth and generally doesn't work very well either.

So, about the Hub. Is everyone getting slow download speeds? I got hooked on downloading on the hub for a week now. Initially things worked fine. Alas, now it's sucking badly. (for the last 2 days or so anyway). I pretty much just want to know if it's more than 1 person, and not just me. Or, could this be a new iBurst plot to overthrow down-loaders everywhere?

Also this is my first post! Hey everyone. It sucks that my first post is a bit of a whine/moan. Sorry about that :p

Hey Jellybean, I saw you there and yes, I am also getting horrendous downloads. Even if I do the disconnect reconnect. I've tried all varieties of IP combinations. Nothing works. And I only have till next weekend to download everything i want ;-(

YAY, someone else feels my pain :) I tried the RC, DC thing too.. you're right, it doesn't work :(

I've been downloading a file list for the last 2 days. I did about 17 GB so far this month. And I'm guessing that's all I'm gonna be able to get

Jellybean, it's one of 2 things.

1) Either your ip
2) The user who you are trying to dl from has a naughty firewall up preventing you.

However 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the time it's (1) even when it seems like it can't possibly be.

In regards to recent slow speeds (not file list grabbing problems tho) it appears as though iBurst have finally shaped the hub to death adding yet another notch on what we cannot do online. Weird that these are all the idea of Alan Knott (I've heard first hand) yet if I pop on 3G I don't get a single drop of shaping on torrents etc.

Clearly he's butchering iBurst intentionally but anyway, we'll see if things improve by next month and if not well...the hub will probably fall into disuse as speeds of 600B/s arn't really worth it.

Quota = Cap. He (or she) is asking if using dc++ counts to your cap. It does.
Incidentaly, I'm not complaining anymore. Sure, DCC is now dead, but regular web-browsing is astonishingly fast. web, ftp, even cvsup's on my unix box, are all finally working at the speeds I expected when I first signed up.

And I'm on the Centurion tower...
So ya. Mixed feelings here. No more free movies (free if you ignore the R709 per month for my 2.5GB) but back to useable internet. Cool :)

Heh people the quota/cap whatever thing is a given since I really did try and make it clear in the faq that ONLY CAPPED USERS would benefit. Non-capped users would find the hub mostly useless and thus no one with cap left should even have been trying to pop in.

All this is irrelevant now though, the hub isn't useful at all anymore because of the immense shaping/BLOCKING put forth by iBurst. It was a good run while it lasted I suppose and showed alot of really good sharing spirit.
