iPhone 14 discussions

Once again my iPhone was exproriated without compensation on a night out last night. I am busy tracking it living its best Jozi life as we speak, it began its morning not far away from me in Broadacres but it has now gone far away, it's now making its way through Braamfontein, have to say this new setup of Find My is great as even if it's off, I can track it, battery must have been at around 90% when they took it so if it's off its going to have plenty juice for me to keep an eye on it.

That being said, looks I will be getting a 14 Pro Max to replace my now stolen 11 Pro Max, or I may get a 13 Pro Max, not sure how long I am willing to wait.
Going to claim on insurance and then wait until the 14 Pro Max arrives and upgrade.

I must have worst luck with iPhones honestly, I owned Androids for a decade not a single time did they get stolen, yet my iPhones it's a different story, cannot get through ownership without them being exproriated

How does this keep happening to you?

Do you just leave your phones out and about?

Androids not being stolen makes perfect sense. Nobody wants them so they have no resale value.

A bit like a Tata.

Shame, Jozi living sounds hard bro :crying::oops:

Lived in JHB all my life. Never had a phone stolen and I walked the CBD for 3 years to get to work. Where you in Melville?

Sorry about the phone

Don’t think you can claim and wait for a new model, just make sure they allow it

I was pick pocketed this time :X3:
Reached into my pocket when I wanted to get an Uber and boom no phone, place was incredibly packed, should have known there'd be some opportunists.
The last time I was mugged while walking to my Uber.

LOL on the Androids

Yeah really depends on the insurer, when my Galaxy S3 broke I claimed and they paid out but I waited about a month with the cash until the Galaxy S4 landed.
This time around I don't think I'll be as patient, especially given the potential for the new iPhone prices to go up. I'll probably get a 13 Pro Max, the guy at Voda shop said he'll hold on to a Space Grey one for me.

I'm not using Voda Insurance, I got my cover through the broker I used for my car and home insurance. Just busy waiting for an ITC number to take to the police station and do an affidavit.

I'm not sure how much value a stolen modern iPhone has, as it's pretty much impossible to break into an iCloud account - making the device essentially a brick.

Reason number 672 to buy an Android.

You’ll be shocked to find out how successful their post theft phishing campaigns are to get those credentials.

If I wasn’t around my more senior family and in laws would fall for them every time.

Also these days there’s a huge potential for extended opportunity theft through things like Siri and Smart Home commands and automations with people who do idiotic **** like not putting in secure pins or any pins at all.

I would imagine there’s a few grand to be made in parts as well if the above fails to get results.

But even the big ticket parts are now cloud locked. I don’t think there is a lot you can salvage from an stolen iPhone.

I keep hearing this and yet I’m not seeing it, seems like one of those internet myths.

Batteries happily work on any device, so do screens and those are the most common items.

Sure you can’t transfer the logic board, but that’s a small part of the total equation.

Here's a kicker, some mutuals were in CPT for this weekend and they got mugged in the early hours of this morning, not only did their phones get taken but the person who stopped to help them also then got mugged, not sure where they were when it happened as last time they communicated they were at V&A Waterfront, we think they got targeted as they are both foreigners one is American and the other from Belgium (they are here for a few months for work).
They are flying back this evening to JHB, will find out exactly what happened. Also iPhones.
