iPhone 14 discussions

I like how they implemented AOD - dimming the entire display and lock screen like that

Curious to see how that feature isn't going to kill battery life. Android devices use a few pixels just for the clock and seem to use about 1% an hour.

Obviously the iPhone has way more efficient hardware but a screen is still a screen and having more pixels = more power used.

My guess is the battery and chip efficiency have bought them some headroom so they can sacrifice a bit to the AOD.

Anyone else noticed a weird teaser at the end of the event?

Some lady in a subway

It was a few seconds after the end of the event and lasted about 3 seconds

Wasn’t it a nod to Severence?

I was being funny with the 'bad' and the 'ugly' part ... should only be 'good'

So you are admitting that it's not all sweetness and light with Apple users and there are criticisms? :whistling:

Just watched the season 1 trailer for Severance, very intrigued! I also wondered what that shot was about.

Also reducing the screen refresh to 1HZ in AOC mode.

They mentioned in the keynote that the A16 plays a part in keeping the screen refreshed at a minimal cost to battery life. So it will be interesting to see once the phones are out.

I'm guessing it's easier to reference: 14, Plus, Pro, Max. Any repetition and you'll have to clarify which one you referring to.
I would guess so too…makes it easier to distinguish between the Plus and the Pro Max. Maybe also a little retro vibe thinking about the 6/6S/7/8 Plus?

Do you think the esim only restriction for US will cause any issues for us if we purchase one from the US?

Depends on the bands used for whichever network you use.

Also US 5G bands are different to what what we use here and in Europe, so 5G might not work on US imported iPhones.

It should actually be ok for LTE/5G as the US one has more than the international version.

Not sure I could live with an eSim only phone though.
