iPhone 14 discussions

Three days to go and have changed my mind a dozen times now, between keeping the 12 another year, buying a 13 Pro at discount, buying a 14 or buying a 14 Pro if the price increase isn't too steep.

Hopefully the 14 is so much of an improvement it becomes a no-brainer.

Same. My 12 Pro is still chugging along fine. Can save some cash just going 13 or waiting a year

When the word starting with t and ending with roll gets used...

Hey I’m being mocked by saying I’m a power user? I left the guys that ripped into me earlier… but it came up again & I just replied

But I hear you

And on topic - I’d wait a year.

12 to 13 seems incremental. 14 onwards are where the big changes are coming. You’ll kick yourself for going 13 now.

Maybe so, but I'm getting tight on space as I have a 64GB, and the battery is down to 85% so would need replacing sometime as well.

It wouldn't cost much to get a 13 with the 12 trade in.

If that's the case I'll order a 14/14 Pro.

They’ll give me R14k for a 13 Pro trade in :(

I'm a video editor by profession and don't even bother with ProRes on my phone... having said that I never use an iPhone for professional video work anyway
As a non-video professional I find working with ProRes much easier when I bring it into Resolve, especially when it comes to colour grading.

EDIT - tbh I'm not sure why anyone would shoot prores and not bring it across to edit.

It's not like a DNG or raw image where you can do all the post processing in software, and bypass the phones internal processing.
Yeah, when it comes to stills, raw is the only way to counter apple's over enthusiastic HDR.

ProRes is a waste of space and time.

Unless you are bringing the footage into video editing software like Adobe Premiere or DaVinci resolve, there is no point in shooting in ProRes. ProRes is just an intermediary codec designed for video editing software.

There is no increase in video quality. ProRes isn't a "raw" codec, so all the post-processing sharpening and noise reduction that the iPhone does is also baked into the ProRes file. It's not like a DNG or raw image where you can do all the post processing in software, and bypass the phones internal processing.

I'm a video editor by profession and don't even bother with ProRes on my phone... having said that I never use an iPhone for professional video work anyway - and the times when I've needed to use my phone, the standard HEVC codec is more than good enough for run and gun shooting.
Good to know, won’t waste time or storage with it then outside of just giving it a quick try.

Most of my videos are shot on Instagram anyway:ROFL:

Once again, to echo what Genetic said, there is nothing to “try quick” if you’re not going to import it into a dedicated video editing program and do some post processing on it :)

Similar boat, depending on what's announced I might just get a 13 Pro instead of a 14 pro. AOD isn't something I'll really use, but the updated cameras and possible increase in battery life might just sway me.

Was lucky enough to see some of the latest line of Apple products. It was okay, the camera improvements on the iPhone 14 Pro series, together with AOD looks good! Pity I bought my iPhone 13 Pro this month :-(

The Apple Watch Ultra looks dope!

Do you think the esim only restriction for US will cause any issues for us if we purchase one from the US?
