iPhone 3G? No thanks

Meh... I wasn't overly impressed with the first iPhone. And with the way Apple is behaving towards its customers now, I'm even more turned off.

I think I will get me a Google Android phone before the end of the year!

At last a sensible thread/article to take some of the shine of this well marketed campaign to get everyone to think they NEED an iPhone! There are lots of better phones out there!

The data limit is what really kills the deal for me. What is the point of having the best mobile Internet experience when you only get 250 megs of data? I have the Touch and I love it but with Youtube, surfing, e-mail and more you can blow through a couple of gigs a month.

I guess it depends on your habits. For me, I thought the same thing - how the hell will I manage with 700 MB a month.. turns out I'm lucky to even use 200 MB, and that includes Youtube, email and general surfing.

The iPhone is definitely somewhat over-rated, but nevertheless it's a nice gadget to have.

I agree - its a nice to have but seriously overrated. The only way I'm going to get one is if someone gives it to me. Got better things to spend my bucks on.

I agree on both points: really want the google phone, a phone with 10 billion ways to input. I bet if we wait for the second google phone it will have mental input on top of all its input..:D I mean, qwerty keyboard, touch screen, handwriting recognition, trackball? wow! i-Phone has what? Touch screen? Loser!

I told a pal from the UK the price of the Pay as you go version. He was astonished, and gave me a figure of 100-150 pounds less that they pay for a PayG iPhone.

One thing that must be added, if you use your phone at home, and have wireless and adsl, that could be quite a help as well concerning usage. But yeah, not always realistic now is it.

HTC for me. Hope it comes soon though...

I got myself the 3G iPhone & absolutely love it!

So cool to surf the web on Safari while listening to music at the same time. This is exactly what I wanted. :)

Ha ha sorry to sound like a party pooper but that sounds like so many phones on the market at the moment! And to really kill the mood... for about half the price!

What I wanted in my next phone :

Easy to use interface
Good quality music
Usable web browser with big screen
Good quality voice calls
Can take pics easily
Can watch videos

My 3G iPhone gives me exactly what I wanted.

Oh, and I do like a good looking phone & interface - and nothing else on the market really comes close. HTC will never be that cool. ;)

I think you have summed the real reasons for people rushing out to get the iPhone with your last word.... most people are rushing to get it for the perceived "cool" factor of the iPhone. The problem with that is that cool factor will wear off rather quick.

I do not doubt that the iPhone is a decent enough unit but what grates me is that it is made out to be the ultimate phone... I really can't see this! And every post by someone who now owns one seems to confirm this as nothing out of the ordinary is mentioned as a feature. Music, watch videos (a novelty which also wears out very soon!), camera (no chance this phone is even near the N82) etc. The one debatable point may be the "easy to use interface". In my personal capacity the jury is still out on the decision on whether touch screen is the way to go....

Let me ask a question if I may? If you were to play a game on the iPhone what is used as a gamepad? Do buttons appear on the touch screen for you to use? If this is the case I am sure that is something I would not favour.... you really need to be able to feel the keys. And i am by no means a phone gamer but it is something i sometimes do to pass the time.

Hmm. Too expensive. I'll get the Nokia e71 when I upgrade in November.

@king. And you didn't want a phone that can copy paste? record video? send mms!!! forward sms? edit a word file by any chance? act as a modem 4 ur laptop when ur on the go? multitask!!?? did u want none of these basic features from ur next expensive phone? btw i'm typing this on my old tytn while playing mp3's im also sharing my 3g wirelessly so my gf can surf on her laptop.. o and I have a game of monopoly going on in the background. I can also copy and paste this post if I like LIKE SO LIKE SO LIKE SO LIKE SO LIKE SO o before I forget I can undo my writing if I need 2, all very very basic things!! And this is an OLD phone before 3" screens before accelometers before gps, o I forgot I have googlemaps open in the background 2 but u catch my drift?

Its only decent if you jailbreak it (voiding your warranty i guess hehe)

What do you guys think about the Samsung Omnia? If you really want a full touch screen phone, I'd say that's the route to go - offers waaay more, in basic and advanced features, than the iPhone ever can IMO

I do agree though that you need to feel some buttons if it's going to get to things like playing games on your device...

I had the original iphone, it looks super stylish, and has a few cool applications but i spent way too much cash just checking my mail. Would have to mainly wait to get into a wifi zone to get full functionality and in this country that just doesn't cut it so with 250mb it sorta sucks. I really thought they would ship it with a gig of bandwidth, and with the prices that they are charging they should.

I also think the iphone cant compete with the HTC G1 (AKA HTC DREAM or Google 1). I cant wait for a release, though with the this country it will be 2 years before we get the G1.

I'm not happy with the lack of multitasking and the crazy price.
