Interesting. Mine works fine (on MTN) and has since I took it out of the box.

The assistant in the shop recommended I activate my phone with the MTN simcard in it, so that all the settings would be correct. My iPhone and data services all work perfectly, and I haven't changed anything and I sync with iTunes almost every night.

What is the APN configured on the phone under 'Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network'?
 
I did that pre registration - still waiting for them to phone me!

screw them i bothered to take the time to sign up with my details so they can probably sms spam me etc and they dont hold their end of the bargain... :mad::confused::mad:

I think their pre-order system was faulty to begin with.
 
They only phoned the GF back today... Makes you think that they either still have LOADS of iPhones left, or trying to justify another batch for South Africa...
 
V3G, you mentioned you were going to "give away" your iphone soon....I'm here with open arms buddy...not that I am a fanboy or anything but would not mind playing with it for a while...much similar to your taste. just PM me if you want my postal address or something :D

It seems I've had my wires crossed. I did a lot more research and it turns out you guys were right - thank you, I misunderstood the $199 pricing issue.

I still don't understand the model Apple has taken with this contract tie-in. Clearly the intention was to draw excitement from consumers into wanting an iPhone due to the 'low' $199 pricetag. Does this 'arrangement' mean that Apple and the respective SP's are 'partners' where the iPhone is concerned? As per my previous post regarding Vodafone Australia - much better offers are still available compared to VC's iPhone 'promotion' - that cannot be disputed.

Anyway, I personally feel it should've been less confusing from the start. I may stick with VC afterall but I'm going to look for another cellphone to renew my contract with.

Sorry guys, for me, there is no better phone. I have owned an iPhone for more than 6 months and I can tell you that I have never owned a better phone, EVER, and I have owned many. The only problem I have is the cracking, but that is quite easy.

not one day that goes by am I regretful of purchasing such a lovely piece of gadgetry.

It is the easiest phone to use.

One other thing, if you have never owned one, then trust me on this, you will never know the true reason why iphone owners love their phones so much.

Have you owned an N95, N82, Omnia (had to pot that in to not appear biased :)) or anything else of the sort?
 
Well, My previous phones..

Ok, I had a nokia 2110, then a Nokia 6110, nokia 3330, Nokia 6600, imate JAM, Samsung D900, Motorola RAZR V3, HTC Touch (original), and now my iPhone.

I must just say that the HTC Touch is a lovely platform, but windows Mobile 6.1 is still too businesslike to be a good allrounder. The new WM7 looks like it will finally be fantastic competition for the ease of use of the iPhone.

Personally that is what I am after, ease of use and stability.

No, I have not owned the N95 or the N82, but i have had extensive experience supporting their users. Still the Symbian OS, dont like the GUI, too complicated and too many buttons to get to menu's

Well, on top of that. I completely modded the OS on both my imate and the touch. I managed to play with WM6.1 on the touch. If it were not for the iPhone, I would have one of the touch models.

Too many buttons to get to menus? It only takes a single press of the menu button to access these but you don't even need to access the menus if you don't want to :

Need the camera - open the shutter
Need the music player - press and hold the multimedia button or even easier slide the slider down to expose the music player keys and open the player
View the gallery - no problem press the gallery button on the side of the phone to open it

Any other apps you use frequently - no problem add fully customisable shortcuts to them to your active stand standby screen, one button press and they are open.

Need to assign a button to something specific - not a problem you can change what the two soft keys do at your free will.

Yes well, it is a powerful OS made with power users in mind.
 
Yup, now you see, that is cool to be able to add the shortcuts to the stand-by screen, but to open the app, you still need to select the shortcut... Too much thinking involved... :D.

Then made for powerusers in mind... That there is the problem. I am a power user and I love playing and tinkering, but when it comes to a device one needs to use everyday, it mustbe fast, easy, and require the least amount of thought to use and setup... In comes the iPhone... 5 minutes and it is 100% working, able to do everything. It takes me a moment to 'remember' how to get it the messages app to send a message, or to select the shortcut. It would be great if ALL apps had their own shortcut key, that would be perfect.

In comes the iPhone. it is so intuitive, you are able to use it immediately, no need for a manual. No need to sit and read up on how to turn on the bt or wireless, or how to put it in flight mode... no need to 'remember' how to make a call or how to find a contact... Yes WM6 is easy, but lets face it, it just is not THAT intuitive... Speak to any user of a WM device that is not a poweruser or a teckie... they hate it... Except maybe the touch range, they are better than plain WM... WM7 looks like MS has found it and will actually release a fantastic OS. (not that WM6 is bad, just outdated)

Ok, and dont get me started on performance, because the WM devices are slow, no matter how much hardware is thrown at them... I cant comment on the daily use of a Symbian phone because I have not spent enough time with a newer release...

All I can say is this... WM6 is great... for a power user or someone looking for all that office functionality...

But use an iPhone for a week and you will never look back. THAT I promise you. no matter what it costs...
 
I want a phone that keeps me intrigued for weeks rather than one that you can set up in five minutes and that is it.

Does the iPhone make calls and open apps without you pressing anything? Does it read your mind? That is what you are implying by saying that having to select a short cut involves too much thinking...

You seem to have stated that the iPhone is designed for "simple" people who are unable to remember that pressing the "messaging" button will allow you to send a message like symbian allows you...

And I would love to take you up on your challenge of using the iPhone for a while but it will be a costly exercise as I can almost guarantee that it will not be long before I crave my Symbian 60v3 device again! And this view is based on multiple reviews I have read relating to these interfaces.

I have a feeling its a lot easier to dismiss the device if you've never actually used one.
