The iPhone comes with a default "Apple" APN, that won't be configured on the other networks (so the iPhone won't work OOB on these other networks), but you can change it to the new network APN with the SA iPhones quite easily. Although I see iTunes keeps on wanting to change it back. Again, an Apple configuration setting, via iTunes.

I believe some of the iPhones supplied overseas don't allow the APN to be changed, so if you have one of these you might have a problem trying to use it on another network.

Ok as you highlighted in red, my point is that Apple's worldwide policy is to EITHER give a New replacement OR a refurb however in SA with Vodacom being the agent, the policy is only to give a refurb according to what has been said here. Why would that be different to the rest of the world? Is that Vodacom's policy or Apple's? :rolleyes:

Does it matter? I've got refurbished products from apple before - its standard practice when an ipod breaks under warranty - and you cannot tell that it isnt brand new. This is at any stage throughout the year warranty.

It's probably the same here, i.e. if they have no 'refurb' ones, they'll probably give you a new one but the policy is not to swap it for new ones.

As bwana keeps on stating, it's seems to be the standard Apple way of doing things.
 
Yes it does matter as a consumer I want to know why the world wide policy is different for this country.
It is a ridiculous policy and has been changed if we are to believe what has been posted.

Well just seems strange that a company has a world wide policy and then changes it for only one country. What I am saying is that maybe Vodacom did not want to carry the cost of having NEW units on hand. Typically companies in China give about a 1% failure swap out. Could be a bit more or less depending on the company but from dealing with China that is what I have been told. Obviously some offer better deals. Problem is that if you want to have more swap out units, the agent here will carry the cost above the allocation.
Does not make sense...
Anyway I dont think we, the public will get an answer anytime soon.

Yes, that I gathered. I am still baffled that some people said apple has better warranty policies than other manufacturers. It is hard to argue that if you look at the standard Vodacom warranty policy on all other VSP handsets.

From what I have read on many threads by now, "not working out of the box" is a known issue with many things on the iphone. But after voiding your warranty (hacking) or installing various 3rd party apps you should get round most of them.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Some people prefer to take the more arrogant way and others the more elegant way.

And I just (b)wana add that this ain't trolling, just my observations :D

Yes but you should restore your iPhone before sending it away, if you don't you may void your warranty. Say something should happen to a person's phone and they need to send it away I doubt they'd be thick enough to send it with all their personal details and contacts. They should do a restore in iTunes and install a fresh copy of the OS, nobody will know they used these apps.

Ah - I see, so you agree then that I was right and your statement that I am wrong and just keep on harping is perhaps a little out of touch ? BTW, I have never had to to that with any other mobiles I have had.

Regarding the refurb issue...
Mines does not say anything about refurbs, it does however state replacement.
But I think replacement can also mean refurb or brand new... Either way it better than repaired!:p

Still a bit clueless, some of these apps are available in the appstore and don't require you to jailbreak anymore.
(have not tried any of these myself, no need for them yet)

MMS= Quip or flutter
VoiceDial =Many apps available in the Appstore one is called "VoiceDial" and cactus is a free version.
Syncing of Notes = Works on OSX
Share media = Mediashare

More still to come, the Appstore is only a few weeks old FFS!
 
**** **** **** mac is ****.microsoft is ****..sorry GNU/Linux owns your arse's..thus I state **** your iphone, **** your window mobile phones. I'll wait for android...cause in the end open source means freedom
