iPhone 3G pricing details

A GIG?!

i'm with v3g on this one then, a gig is way too much for phone browsing - but 500mb would be just right.

remember, how much does a gig of data cost by itself? exactly.

Its a data device bud - one you have had one for a month or two you'll understand ;)
Besides: the rest of the world has managed to go unlimited with the iPhone and to the best of my knowledge Blackberry has such a plan in SA... whats the problem?
Too much revenue to gain by people going over bundle and being charged a fortune per meg? Exactly. ;)

I think this somes it up .. at present, VODACOM offer an unlimited on-browser plan with the Blackberry. I'm guessing that Blackberry phones weren't as hyped as the iPhone though meaning fewer customers.

The one thing with the data plan is that basically, whatever we were given (barring unlimited), people were going to complain. If 2gigs were given, there would be people complaining that you can only use it on the phone and that is like a waste.

The 250MB though is like nothing. I think a lot of people have said already that this was a perfect oppurtunity for Vodacom to have shown people that they aren't out to rip everyone off. Alas, it was not meant to be. The device is optimised for using the Web and well, you can't really utilise the full power of Google Maps, YouTube and even Facebook with the limited data plans. SO basically, rather than being a proper data device, the phone is merely a shiny toy for people that don't mind phone bills in the R2000+ range - basically, a yuppy toy!

I'm not sure if this is possible though but I'm thinking that it would be cool to go to a SP and ask them if you can bolt on the Blackberry unlimited data deal onto the phone .. data problem solved ;)

I totally agree with Shahil. The 250mb data limit is a dealbreaker for me. I mean just browsing a few sites regulary with Safari is going to eat that 250mb up in no time, not to mention any email.

I can't see bolt on thing working, because as far as I know, you need a BB handset for that to work. VC are going to make tons of bucks from guys going over their 250mb limit and paying R1.50 a mb thereafter.
 
This is my opinion that anyone can take to the bank.

I have had the iPhone for almost 1 year, might be a year already, prepaid, and I paid $400 for it, but it is locked to the AT&T network, but you can not really find a better plan anywhere else, so I stuck with AT&T as you get 400 minutes, 5000 off-peak minutes and unlimited data plus 200 text messages and this for..inc taxes...$75

Now, my point, I maybe once or twice a month would use Youtube on the iPhone, I do get my e-mail on it, but dont really read it, just delete it, and I surf websites when i need a phone number of it or some other info like my bus scheduling. Looking at my stats on the phone, I have already burned through 213MB of data, and this should be since the 2.02 version upgrade.
 
Just got back from thttp://mybroadband.co.za/podcast/he Vodashop after applying to port, fairly effortless. Collecting my 8Gb on Monday. I opted for the Talk 240, financing the cash pay-in even though it works out to just over R400 more over 24 months which is fine. As for the 250mb, it works out slightly cheaper for the contract + sms bundle + 250mb data, so, should the 250mb not be sufficient, I will just bolt on another data bundle, and pay what I would have paid anyway, give or take a few R's.

So, all in all, I'm not too phased by the pricing, it actually came in lower than my guesstimate.

The only thing that I'm a bit disappointed with was the fact that imo, Vodacom took what was possibly the most significant device launch in South African mobile history and mucked it from a marketing perspective. There comes a point when hype dwindles due to a lack of information or communication. Compared to the UK/US launches, they should've and most likely could've exploited this launch better.
 
And here i thought vodacom would rip us off and charge 500 usd for the cash option. This is ridiculously expensive!
 
I left the office a little early today to go check out the iPhone. Got home with a Nokia E71 in hand, saving myself R1041 (didn't want another contract) :D
 
I have been using the 3G iPhone since I picked it up this morning (currently typing on it) and I have already used 27MB - no YouTube, only browsing and email. At this rate I'd blow the 250MB in less than 10 days!

You can turn of "push" and see if that saves bandwidth.
 
I definately am very happy with mine. 2.1 firmware, jailbroken with MTN SIM. Couldn't ask for better.
 
After seeing the best tariff plans Vodacom could come up with the iPhone, I decided to rather wait a year and get me 2009's iPhone - 800*480 pixel screen, 32GB memory and hopefully A2DP... O yeah - and copy and ****** paste...
 
250MB? Are these people insane? That's barely enough to keep goldfish alive. The AT&T contracts that the Americans love to complain about contains UNLIMITED data. The SA consumer is being royally abused once more.

Sorry, gotta be off. Have to buy a new battery for my Nokia 9300 after all.
