iPhone 3G pricing details

V3G, Come on tell us now...Did they give you one for free?? Are you currently taking a bite out of the new apple? :cool:

I wouldn't pay the exorbitant amount but hey, for free...it could be my primary phone. :D

Agreed, 250MB is more than enough IMO. know you just need to look at pricing... was really looking forward to everyone being able to afford an iPhone.. in the US it super cheap, why not the same here?

Believe it, or not, but I bought mine! And I fully expect to give it away within a few days once I've shown everyone the cool GUI....

I need a proper business phone and the iPhone is just not one at this point in time.

Having said that I would not mind the iPhone GUI, on a HTC-type chassis, with Blackberry functionality.

Whats interesting is that the 16 gig unlocked there is R6448, which kinda proves that the Vodacom price of R7569 is radically over priced. Why are we paying R1000 more for a network locked phone? Capitalism at its best... bend over and touch your toes....

The article clearly states it is not locked.

The South African version of the iPhone is not network locked.

Sorry my oversight :sick: But the question is still valid, why are we paying R1000 more for the phone?

I suspect the answer is because South African's don't do anything when we are being ripped off, hence why they can over charge here, because they can get away with it. If this happened in France the masses would be in the street objecting.
 
I see the omnia has a TV out and a Projector out - does the iPhone have this?

If 250mb really is enough, why not give away unlimited data or a GB. If most of the people won't be using more than that it should balance out with the handful that does. Plus, by giving away more data than anyone needs makes VC look awesome, now VC just looks like a bunch of stingy *******s

Hehe...thanks! Prepaid (already have a contract)...was the third person in the store to buy one and the lady said everyone before me had gone for the 16gig. Seems to be the one selling!

I don’t think they are getting away with it because South African's don't do anything. What is there to do anyway? I think they are getting away with it because of the monopoly that the cellular companies have in this country.
 
all that people need to do is not buy it, and force them to give us better data options for that price. 250mb is just silly.

Fully agree

seems they are making at least 100% markup on the phones.

For that price, I would much rather have the much higher build quality of a blackberry.
