why so expensive!! R7569!! according to our rates this morning, i sell forrex:D, inclusive of all charges that would get you $885!!! i may be wrong but woudnt that get you 2 iphones and some change for mcdonalds in america:sick:

But the States one is network locked isnt it? So you have to jail break him :)

Yep... and you'll need a turbosim since there is no software 3G unlock yet, been there done that.. would rather take the official route now, Apple have proved that it will close holes the hackers try to use :(

OMG, I can't believe how pathetic us South Africans have become. We've become so used to being arse rammed by the telkoms and eskosm etc. that we now even buy our own lube so it doesn't hurt as much.

We are able to get the iphone 1 for about R8000 from the states and jobs said the new one was 1/2 the price. Someone is being screwed here and gues what? It's us.

I am willing to bet that after Jan the phone price will miraculously drop and we will so thankfull that they gave us this big discount, and we won't even have to touch our toes (often).

I just spoke to a retailer who can bring in the 16GB phones from USA for R6000 and that's with paying import taxes.

**** vodacom, bunch of sharks, I'll get my iphone from the states and use it on the MTN Network.

HA HA HA

Please in future we do not need your detailed ass rammed explanation

So why dont you import it then like alot of other people did but dont expect VC to assist you with a grey a product.

One thing Apple is going to be tough on (among many others) is the warranty. Vodacom is not authorised to repair the phones so they must go back to Apple, and you can think what their response is going to be on grey products.

BTW, the warranty is one 1 year, and not 2 years like with other Vodacom products. This was not a VC call.

Bit pricey, but certainly up there with what was speculated.

Must say, the R1,50 per MB out of bundle is not cool - 250 MB is not very much! At least they include the bundle - phone would be kind of useless without.

Oh well - people at Vodaworld didn't seem to mind too much (the way they were buying the phone!)

Well R1.50 a meg oob is cheaper than what everyone else pays at R2.00 a meg, my initial thought was "good discount".

250mb should be more than enough. Remember it's a PHONE. If you need more data get a data card.

Seriously. Some people just like to complain.

For all those looking to buy the Iphone from china...

"According to the South China Morning Post, in China the iPhone 3G won't have 3G or Wi-Fi. China Mobile wants Apple to disable these two features. The first because they don't have a 3G network in place. The second nobody knows or can imagine why, but it simply makes the iPhone an almost-useless shiny brick" via http://gizmodo.com/5054599/chinese-iphone-3g-wont-have-3g-or-wi+fi

Rendier, will you be able to better the Vodacom Pre-paid deal?
Yes pls Rendier come to everyone's rescue... As i said every toss who criticized you were well... tossers

What a rip off. R300 (for talk 120) + R160 (250 MB Databundle) = R460.
So their new price plan saves you a whole R10.... And they are baseing the pay-in amount just on the cost of the Talk 120.

They should have included at least the 500MB Databundle. The standard price for that is only R29 more than the 250 MB Databundle.

Don't forget the 100 SMS bundle also included.

The only good news for me in all this is:

The South African version of the iPhone is not network locked.

Considering it is quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA (damnit Apple, why not just add the one missing band and make it a true world phone?), you can buy a prepaid one (or take your contract one) and be able to use it in a different country if you move.

Only potential snag: Is there an international warranty on these things, or is it SA only?

I'm hurt, I thought this forum was started to give a voice to the voiceless, a forum for the forumless a place to troll for the trollless :(

I for one will not be falling for the iphone hype! IMO hte Samsung Omnia is probably an better phone! ATM I dont think Apple can do anything wrong. If they put the Apple trade mark on a dog turd, I think that supply wouldnt be able to match demand! The samsung might not have the undeniable sexyness that apple has perfected but I just think the iPhone is TOO hyped....

Pretty standard pricing here from VC. Look at the pay-in's for other phones of similar value (R6k-7k). But ya still a rip off.

LOL I disagree with the troll bit but you are free to express your opinion. :)

lol, My apologies to anyone I accidentally rammed I was just in the mood for a good vent :)

now that I think about it, you can't be a troll when bitching about telkom, eskom, vodacom or iburst because everyone just agrees with you :D

Apple is doing what it does best. Releasing something with crippled functionality (e.g. iPhone relative to other smart phones), KNOWING people will eat the iTurds out of their hands regardless. Then, they just need to refresh that product once a year, each time incrementally adding one missing functionality or fixing one annoying bug. Over the course of a couple of years, they've sold millions and millions of units (new users, and users that must upgrade for the bug fixes or improved functionality). I absolutely HATE Apple for this practice of theirs.

Sounds like Microsoft except they only release once every 4 years.
