I think Vodacom's prepaid prices are decent. Just not a fan of how they have setup their new contracts. And with all the secrets you would have thought they would have put a bit more effects into defining their new 'ground breaking' pricing stuctures.

What happened to Jobs' $199 8GB iPhone announcement? As it stands, it's $219 on a VC contract and $779 without.
Surely there are better phones for R6300!

There's not much difference in the price. This is a bit like the debate about the cheapest way to download a file from Hong Kong, except that adding the plane ticket actually makes is far more expensive than just buying it here. FWIW The "unofficial" unlocked iPhones in Dubai are retailing at around R11k. At least Apple is doing something about getting fair prices in all markets.lilGr

I use around 200MB on a 2G one, if I had 3G I'd probably use a bit more.

Actually those prices are pretty much in line with whats been released in the rest of the world...
$200 pay in on the contract plus the contract fee. Granted the contacts are not great, but then thats cellphone providers in this country for you.

Maybe for the phone but the plans - esp that pathetic 250mb of included data - are typical of SA. Even the Canadian company Rogers offers more and they were slammed by the public for their pricing.

Maybe you'll save a few cents but I meant if you were in China you could get it cheaper thus Vodacom could do better...
But then again the iPhones are manufactured there so they can afford to bring down prices.

Seems like ZATech show got it wrong with regards to the unlimited data plan... But yes, you cannot give anything 'unlimited' to a South African, because by hook or by crook (SSH tunneling), that phone will be used as their ADSL replacement...

Why does Cellucity ask R8500 for the iPhone when the official Vodacom shop asks R7500? I realize they are not the same company as Vodacom SP, but come on? That is blatant ripping off (over and above the massive ripoff th iPhone is already...)

OMG, I can't believe how pathetic us South Africans have become. We've become so used to being arse rammed by the telkoms and eskosm etc. that we now even buy our own lube so it doesn't hurt as much.
We are able to get the iphone 1 for about R8000 from the states and jobs said the new one was 1/2 the price. Someone is being screwed here and gues what? It's us.
I am willing to bet that after Jan the phone price will miraculously drop and we will so thankfull that they gave us this big discount, and we won't even have to touch our toes (often).
I just spoke to a retailer who can bring in the 16GB phones from USA for R6000 and that's with paying import taxes.

Has anyone here bought it cash yet? Just spoke to Vodacom, they said the phone will only be made available in a month on prepaid. And also at a higher price than on Vodacom's website?
But the States one is network locked isnt it? So you have to jail break him
I've broken so much crap in my life but breaking something to get it working will be a first.
