Hi...anyone else having issues with weak wifi signal on their iPhone 5? My old HTC Wildfire gets perfect signal in all areas of my house whereas the iPhone battles to pick up the signal and hold it until I move about 5m closer to the router!

I was reading this thread on the Apple Discussion site and see that it could be a hardware issue:

Is your iOS fully updated? I seem to remember some patch notes about that.

I think the problem is with iOS6 - my iPhone 4 wifi range has dropped dramatically since I upgraded.

I ask because i put on a beats by dre alluminium case and it chowed my signal, switched to a thin plastic one and I get about the same signal on my 5 as my 4.

What case do you have?

A Griffin soft plastic one, not that it matters. Same before and after upgrade, problem is the same with or without case.

I used to have full signal in my bedroom, for instance, now I can barely connect. I used to be able to stand at the bus-stop across the street (about 20m away from my front door) and have full signal, now the phone doesn't even pick it up.

Just turn off cellular data in the general settings tab when in range of your wifi signal...

I don't have a problem. I live in an old English building with solid walls and have a full wifi signal in all rooms. It's flat though, not a house, but still the signal has no problem with the walls.

Possibly your device may be faulty?

my problem revolves around not being able to join my hotspot at home. password is right but it refuses to rejoin. what does the dhcp lease refer to in the settings? my laptop just connects everytime no problem. but the i5 just refuses now. rather bloody annoying.

Have you tried resetting you network settings? Settings, general, Reset

will do now and check if i can join when i get home. i want stuff just to work. thought thats what apple did well.

I took mine back to Vodacom for the same issue - wifi was pathetic...
They gave me the phone back saying they switched off location services and updated the software (which is a lie) and I booked it back immediately as I have another iphone 5 and while the lady in vodaworld was giving me back my phone to check it out - I put both iPhone 5's next to each other - one saw like 7-8 wifi networks and mine saw 2-3 only - so I booked it back immediately.

I know that in USA and other countries they replace them cause it is WiFi antenna inside the phone issue - but I guess here guys think they can just bsht customers and get away with it...

We'll see how it ends up...

I just realized that my phone is also affected by this ridiculous problem. I can't even walk around the corner of the room where my wifi router is standing. As soon as I'm just a few meters around the corner I'm losing reception, can't even listen to my shared music collection. OMFG how insanely pathetic is this?!? iPhone 5 will definitely be my last iPhone. I'm not willing to spend so much money and then I only have like a 10 meter wifi range.

Yes, mine was pretty awful and some days would not connect to the office network. I got it exchanged at the shop in Waterfront after a bit of a battle (have you tried this, tried that, etc). I told them I am not an experimenter, I am a user. Tech guy looked down his nose at me until I brought up the CPA

Just switched from WPA/WPA2 to WEP according to http://www.redmondpie.com/this-solution-can-apparently-fix-poor-wi-fi-performance-on-iphone-5/

It really is better now, further testing hopefully confirms.

So now you have to basically drop all security on your router, just so that you can get wifi on your phone? That's pretty disgusting. Apple need to sort their **** out. A person should not have to go to such lengths to be able to do something that rudimentary.

Security is not an issue to me, WEP is good enough. But yes, I do agree with you. It does suck ass.
