As for the iPhones, pretty much went according to the "leaks".

Those antenna bands are unsightly! I just don't know how those were signed off on??!!

Also find the 4.7 a little underwhelming.

OIS is HUGE and I would have loved that feature to be available on the 4.7. I'm unsure on the ram. Is it 1gb/2gb, 4.7/5.5 or both 2gb?

PPI on the 4.7 basically the same as 5s, also find that a little disappointing.

5.5 is too big for me but that is definitely the model to get. No 32gb also seems surprising to me. That has historically always been my go to model.

Anyway...

According to GSM Arena, it is 1gb/2gb - 4.7/5.5

As far as the apple event and the new iPhone is concerned, while the iPhone itself looks good, I really expected a bit more in terms of the phone specs. The iPhone 6 (smaller of the two) should have had a 1080p screen at minimum, and the iPhone 6+ should have had a 2k screen (Or something close).

I know that specs are not everything for a phone, but after seeing what the other manufacturers currently offer, it leaves me wanting more.

I know that apple has an amazing app store along with great software (fast), as well as a good record of providing firmware updates on time, but we know that both these devices wont be cheap at launch. Its hard to justify spending cash/contract for a device which has mid range specs in the current gen of phones.

For a phone which will be over 10k (For just a 16gb), all we get is an 8mp camera (used for the last 3 devices, though they say its improved), 1080p screen (Only on the larger device).

In terms of the watch. I must say that it does look stylish and am glad that they really took time to think about the look of the watch. But I think that these are a bit unnecessary right now. Until they are more compact, have greater battery life and have more useful features which do not heavily rely on having your phone synced to them, I will skip them. Its a really nice gadget, but not really necessary right now.

The resolution of the 4.7 model is a disappointment to me but I did expect it. 326ppi is behind the curve. The 1080 5.5" screen seems fine though because they also need to optimise the phone for battery life, memory consumption, GPU strain, etc, and there are still going to be too many compromises in going to 2k that make it difficult to justify the trade-off. I can't see any difference holding a G3 and G2 next to each other with a doubling in pixel count. I'm fairly confident that the screen quality will stand up to anything else on the market quite easily, subjectively. Leaked benchmarks look faster than the Snapdragon 805 which is currently the head of Android SOC class.

you sir have made valid points.

I wasnt and still not convinced on iPhone 6. (if i would get a 6 would be just the 6, i have the G3 and it is simply too big of a phone... 4.7inch thanks)

however one part you didnt mention. Apps are built for couple devices and not 10000 meaning easier and optimisation is much better, meaning of course they dont need insane CPU's. Apps are much more stable on iOS and this has been a fact i would say for a very long time. - i left android 3 years ago because of too many reasons. it has matured buuuut still apps crashing and UI issues and lagging. however my iPhone 5 is showing its age now.

as for Apple watch - im more excited about that than iPhone. in fact if new iOS 8 fixes couple speed issues on my iPhone ill only get watch. But like you say form factor and battery life. the tech needs more maturity. (especially for android wearable though, much more)... My BIGGEST concern with the watch in is, this country... gets watch wants to do payments via watch... yeah no sorry we do not support this yet. #LAME

you made me however very undecided over the watch. im not active person as well. sooooo this is as you say a nice gadget for now in this country i feel.

What was wrong with the iPhone 5S size?:(

I've got a feeling that we will see a return to this sort of size in he future.

I find it very odd that they have compact phones for ever, then just suddenly do away with them and go big and huge. Even Samsung, HTC, LG et al bring out smaller versions of their flagships. It's just weird that they abandon the 'mini' market altogether when it was obviously insanely popular.

MrsC is asking the same question.

I've gone a bit nuts lately and as well as just picking up a 5S for my wife from Vodacom, I've just been into Telkom and ordered another 2.

I've been getting a bit fed up of big phones recently and have had a notion to get something smaller that let's you sit down without spearing your balls. So I've ordered a 64gb 5S for R399 and a 16gb one for my daughter for R299 a month after her S3 mini shattered on the floor.

It's so much cheaper than buying them even from FNB whether I use the included minutes or not.

The 5S was just perfect, i never once thought or wished for it to be larger in any way.
I dont get it...

I really do hope this is the worst iPhone in terms of sales.

Im thinking of getting a 5S 64GB as a spare going forward, but I just know all the apps will be optimised for the iPhone 6 anyway.

i just dont get it...
