We've posted a new video test comparing the LTE speeds of the new iPhone 6 versus the iPhone 5s.
Apple touts the iPhone 6 as having 'Faster LTE' saying, "With faster LTE — up to 150 Mbps — iPhone 6 users can experience faster download and upload speeds for browsing the web, streaming music, making video calls, and more." During the iPhone 6 keynote, Apple SVP Phil Schiller revealed that these speeds are possible through a technology called carrier aggregation. A tear down of the new device reveals that it features the Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE Category 4 modem which offers up to 150 Mbps downlink data rates and 50 Mbps uplink data rates.
To put these claims to the test we searched the city for the spot with the absolute best reception we could find. Testing late at night, when network usage is lower, we were amazed at the speed the iPhone 6 was able to achieve.

* For those interested, these tests were performed with the SpeedTest.net app for iPhone, in the middle of the night, in London, Ontario, Canada, using the Fido mobile phone carrier. The flicker on the iPhone 6 is an app issue which occurs when speeds reach a high level. It's not a video capture issue.
** We were able to consistently reach speeds in the high 90s with the iPhone 6. The absolute highest download speed we were able to obtain was 111 Mbps. I'm confident that if the conditions were optimal we could have obtained even higher speeds.
iPhone 6 is cat 4 LTE, 5s is only cat 3.

Will that make a difference in our country?
:erm:
Yes!
Huge difference between LTE and CAT3.
While I'm excited about the new iPhones arriving soon I am not excited about the long cues and understaffed istores. I spend a few minutes in the Menlyn istore yesterday and there was a normal flow of people but total chaos when it it came to assistance and service. Can you imagine the morning that the phones are available and there are just 36 people cueing. 6 buy cash,15 Vodacom upgrades and 15 MTN upgrades...? Chaos chaos chaos seeing that there are at most only 2 staff members per istore that can help with upgrades. Boy I hope I'm wrong but I sure don't want to be pissed off on launch day.
This dude is still living in 2007. His point is about 7 years old.
And that makes it less relevant?
So his main complaint is he can't hold the phone securely? And when he dropped it he caused a ding in the casing?
All he has to do is buy a case and it's problem solved. You can get a decent case for the equivalent of around $10 (or a cheap case for a lot less), having said that, I've used mine without a case for around half the time I've had it (around 5 weeks now) and haven't come close to dropping it yet.
