iPhone appeal slipping

You understand that USB drives are a huge threat to corporate security, right?

For sure. But in our environment we have to use 'em. USB drives get scanned on entry, always. But it is not just about work stuff. In my private life I am seldom at a place where I can get cheap access to the cloud.

Verey few of us live in that world of yours where we can afford to use the cloud for everything. In the cloud you pay for every move you make over and over and over. Every time you update a file (a design for example) you have to send it to the cloud. Money ... money ... money ....

It's only really an issue if you're on out of bundle 3G or something, otherwise not that bad unless you really are transferring 1.2gb movies continuously. For docs, images and even songs it doesn't add up to that much, and in a small business environment then you would most likely be on some kind of uncapped deal.

I have mentioned this in another thread, but unless Apple come up with something as aesthetically pleasing as the S3, they are going to have a hard road ahead I think. Being lucky enough to own both, I can say that when I look at my iPhone after a day with my S3, it looks very dated. The build quality is far superior on the iPhone, Samsung didn't really wow me in this department, but overall the S3 feels a few years ahead of the iPhone.

I think what is most frustrating to consumers is Apples slow, minor updates that they do to their line of products. They need to start wowing the consumer more. Gone are the days where Apple was revolutionary. They are now competitors rather than innovators. Its all been done, so no one is going to fall off their seat when you release a new model that looks exactly the same and has slightly better insides. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Apple products, they are solid well built machines, but unless they blow some socks off with the iPhone 5 I don't think that many people are going to hang around using their phones.

If you're in a capped environment then how are you getting 1.2gb movies all the time?

Aesthetically pleasing, really? I MUCH prefer the One X's aesthetics.

You have a 1.2GB movie file sitting in movie player App A. You see a new movie player App B in the AppStore and install it. How do you get the movie to the new app without a laptop/PC with iTunes?

In all honesty, I have never wanted to do that. The Movie app plays the movie. Why would I want to use a different app to play it??? (I can imagine some crazy edge cases, but they would not apply to most people).
This has never been a problem for anyone I have ever heard of

What's your point though?

I stated earlier: "Any USB memory stick from any person with anything on it can be stuck into my SGT10.1 or Note right now moving any content to any folder. That is what mobile computing is about."

For me and many others that is a fundamental requirement of a mobile OS/device (without breaking user rights/warranties or the need help from geeks). I want full access to my device's file system and want to move anything around in whatever method is practical, available and affordable. Clearly there are others here that see things differently, and I'm okay with that. For me iOS is too restrictive and more and more users are realising just that (and come to me for help). As people get used to tablets/etc and the "must-be-Apple" craving eases off they will want more freedom. Woz said as much to Apple. I want to do things my way, not how Apple decided is best for them.

I really think you're in the minority ... minority ... minority .... :)

Special cases excluded, I still can't fathom why one would need a USB memory drive these days?

The S3 is nice but I would not call the 4/4s dated next to it. The S3 is nothing special and the one drawback with it is the artificial colours of its display (whatever it is). And the one model I played with at the Samsung demo in Eastgate (they are on quite a campaign) kept freezing when the guys tried to demo voice commands. A siri like feature of Android I assume.

It is definitely an improved on the total plastic look and feel of the S2. I know it is still plastic but it doesn't look that way on this model.

Well let's just concede that iOS is more restrictive than Android. I don't think anybody really disputes it anyway. You need to jailbreak to do any kind of under-the-hood tweaking of iOS. What's your point though? It hasn't hurt Apple at all in the past 5-6 years since the iPhone was released, and I can't imagine why it will hurt them going forwards; unless you have that deluded 'People are beginning to wake up and smell the roses' mindset of certain fanboys on the forum.

Excellently put

Bravo you.

/Cellphone buyers shrug and move on.

0-day exploits?

Or some vulnerability which's not patched yet?

Nein danke... I'll rather do it the old and trusted method.
Dropbox doesnt scan files if their forum posts are anything to go by, instead they leave it up to the same old and trusted methods you must be referring to. :)

Wonder why then still sell them at PC shops etc? And they sell lots of 'em. Wonder what all these people do with them?

You still find CD's sold in stores. Poor people and other edge cases buy them I suspect. And I imagine the same for USB sticks

You wouldn't call a 2 year old design dated? Bad news for you but it is. Did you read every tech website's review of the S3's screen technology without actually using it or watching a HD movie on it because that is what they were saying before the S3's release?

My car radio can't connect to the cloud yet so there is still a case for using USB flash drives.

Absolutely correct! I also know, my S2 is far stronger than any iPhone....
did someone just say iPhones build quality ? i have 4 friends with iPhones.. guess how many have that amazing cracked back look? all of them. My S2 has fallen down stairs, gone flying across rooms, all it has is a scuff on the side. My one friends iPhone cracked in his pocket while at varsity :/

im not saying the iPhone doesnt have things that aren't good. Its just you cant use that excuse.

And how can you justify getting a 4s over an S3 ?

Those here telling me they have no need for USB drives any more and can't see any need for 'em are talking rubbish to defend Apple's limitations. And then CD's are dragged in as an example on the same level as USB drives? C'mon people. Very few have cheap access to the cloud and Wi-Fi everywhere.

Yea the 4S is dated next to newer phones. It's a good thing they're just about to release the next model then or they'd really be in trouble.

Nonsense.

iPhone 4S core is exceptionally fast.

I use USB drives all the time. IN MY PC. What I really don't have need for is to stick them into my iPad.
