iPhone finally arrives

Believe me; I have been in this state of annoyance for some time now. The thing that gets my goat is that Vodacom doesn’t even seem to care that they upset their clients. No wonder they are losing the considerable lead that Vodacom once enjoyed against MTN. Correction, they have already lost that lead.

iPhone is officially launching at Vodaworld midnight on Thursday night (which is technically Friday). Vodacom has invited a sh*t load of "VIPs" to join the pre-launch event Thur night. Will see how many pitch so late though ;)
Anyways, as far as I've heard, only the black iPhone will be available at this time. Not sure if it's 8GB or 16GB (or both).
Prices, hope to hear soon but it does sound HECTIC!!! Nonetheless, I will still fork out the cash to get one :)
Can't wait!!!!! :D:D
See you guys Thurs night!! :D:D

I'm sure you'll be able to. I also have a US iTunes account - at least we can download music, videos etc. Unlike the sucky SA iTunes Store ;)

They do make a whole Hoopla on the terms and conditions, stating that you may not use the account in any other country than the one it is intended for, but I am not sure if they bother checking the location of all the IP’s. If they are anything like Xbox Live, they can limit Credit card usage to accounts issued for the same country as the Credit card. But that is only guess work.

Apple will soon be Geo-IP blocking us from using USA itunes accounts :( I so love my AppleTV, even though it takes 5hrs to download rented movies!

So, for now you can still buy using a USA itunes account but don't know for how long!

5 hours? Are you on dial-up dude? My rented movies start playing after 10 seconds.

Where did you get that information from?
I haven't heard of any such news.
I hope it isn't so and doubt it, they could not restrict real US residents roaming the world and using US itunes. Plus there is no way of getting iTunes money other than having a US credit card. Or getting the gift cards, but that isnt a very sustainable way of getting your iTunes fix.

I don't think the reporter who wrote this article has all the information. He/she is talking about i-app ... which I take is the App Store. You won't need the iTunes music store to add music to your phone. You can sync any music that you have in iTunes to your phone, whether it's purchased from the iTunes Music Store or not

My other half works for Mediazone in Silicon Valley, in the US, they broadcasted the rugby world cup over the internet and also do Kudu Club - we are geo-blocked to see Kudu Club here.

Highly possible that the same can be done with the US itunes store (and that for other countries other than ZA)

I hear that the we'll be paying more than the "standard" contract subscriptions if we get an iPhone on an upgrade or new contract. But then I heard someone on this thread mention that it could be for features like Visual Voicemail. Seems to make sense.

I am just too afraid to speculate at this point. I have heard everything from less than R3k (ridiculous) to a whopping R12k. I was told by someone who works for Vodacom (and you know how reliable they are) that the phone will be offered on a sort of Blackberry account. Who knows?

It is possible, but Apple has never mentioned doing this, it doesn't really make sense since they already have a system in place that ensures that people from other countries cant use iTunes stores that are not from their own country, unless they have access to a US bank account, which is not that easy to casually come across. And they would receive lots of backlash from traveling business men etcetera if they did so.
Also, Kudu Club is rightly geo-blocked here, as it would be 'competing' with dstv.
Other services such as Hulu are also geo-blocked, though I don't like it, it makes a lot of sense, its a free service and if I had it here, I would never have to use a TV again. iTunes on the other hand is a paid service.

True, but don't necessarily need a US bank account (eventhough I have one). There are other work arounds ;-)

Whoa, this site is cool. Never heard of it before.
What does GeoBlocked mean if I can go onto the site? Just cant actually watch the episodes or what? EDIT: Ok, it does :D
