iPhone finally arrives

LOL vodacom3G is the most sarcastic person on this forum :p , Almost always using sarcasm to answer serious questions :D

We all better get onto the waiting list for the 4G iPhone (the one with the Virtual eyeWare interface), due for release in 2012. I believe the waiting list is open and filling up fast. ;)

I don't understand why I need to be in some VIP Club to get the thing

Get as many as you can, and release as quick as you can!
Give a date, set a price, sell.

I mean - was apple's deal that you should only give the release date 3 days before? If that's true i think Apple's dumber than I thought - very stupid business plan.

Like I said in another thread:
google saw, liked, designed, manufactured and launched the answer to the iPhone BEFORE we even know what an iPhone costs

Am I the only one seeing something wrong with the above quote? madness i tell you!

You can knock Apple on a lot of things these days, strategy isn't one of them though ...

It's been very frustrating for many people.

I'm not a sales rep, I don't need to win customers

WTF? is that a "comeback" or something? I don't see they reason you are saying "I don't need to win customers" unless your name is steve jobs.

Not to pick a fight or anything but various countries released pricing information before the phone was actually available. Rogers in Canada and I think O2 are among these
Agreed, I am sick of companies like Vodacom treating customers like we are children. This is clearly a Vodacom marketing tactic nothing more nothing less.

If this had anything to do with marketing it would be lot slicker.

It's a total stuff-up, that's what it is. I said it before, and I'll say it again:
This here folks is like the crack cocaine of case studies into how not to launch a product.

Unfortunately we suffer from a glut of Information...

If Apple had managed to keep their mouths shut about WHERE they were going to launch, I would guarantee that 99% of you ppl moaning now would be jumping up and down about the fact that it was being launched in SA.....

The fact that Apple never actually gave a date for the SA launch seems to go straight over most people's heads....

If Apple had managed to keep their mouths shut

WTF with all the "keep their mouth shut" / secrecy / VIP Club and all?

Why can't Vodacom just give us a date and a price? what kind of a contract agreement is that???

people want to upgrade and need news like this because Thousands of rands are at stake here on a phone that they must keep for 2 bladdy years!

If i'm spending R10,000 on a plasma TV next week, i'd like to freaken know the new model is coming out in 2 weeks. why tell us a few DAYS before the launch, and still not have a price?

Maybe they've been negotiating all this time to get clarity on these issues?

They can't just announce something if they can't be sure they'll be able to supply it at those prices.

Hi folks

I am not certain why there is so much aggression aimed at Vodacom regarding the iPhone launch. I think the same thing happened a month ago and we then said that the launch date, the way it is launched and various other things are up to Apple. I am sure they have their reasons for doing things this way, but in this case I think Vodacom is not to blame for either the launch date or the fact that no pricing is revealed.

Some of the comments in this thread are uncalled for and really not becoming of a constructive discussion. I can understand the frustration but personal attacks are unlikely to change the way Apple do things.

Regards,

RPM

I'm sure that is aimed at me, and it's OK rpm, you can say it.

There is no aggression towards vodacom or v3g, but frustration with what a launchdate is supposed to be, and what it functions for.
I agree with others though that this is not a good way to launch a product and perhaps just want some answers, or some light shed on the reasoning behind such a last minute launch date and still no price as of yet.

Like I said some people are shifting large amounts of money either to wait for the iPhone, or to move on to other Networks and/or Smartphones. Information is power and why it is being kept away from us makes no sense at all, but is only causing headaches to those upgrading the last few months.

Hi Keeper

Vodacom may well have done things differently if Apple was not involved, but they are bound by NDA’s and could therefore not say anything more than they did. To be clear: they never said that they will launch the phone today or release pricing today (quite the opposite in fact).

I don’t know what you expect of Vodacom – must they tell Apple that they will not bring the phone to SA if Apple insists on certain conditions about the information that is released etc?

it warms my heart to see so many of you have nothing more serious to worry about than when you can get a new phone...

I got tired of waiting, so I ordered another phone. I was excited about getting the iPhone at first but over time it just wasn't worth it. Ah well, I pay less and get better features so everyone wins I guess...except Vodacom and Apple.
