iPhone Query (Lost/Stolen with tracking)

So I just spoke to my insurance - basically just asking questions.

If I insure my phone for R18000 and 3 years later it gets stolen or lost or whatever.
Insurance will NOT pay me R18000, they will pay me out the current market value for the phone - so maybe in 3 years it's R13000.

HOWEVER, I will still have always been paying that X amount on insurance for R18000 - the onus is on ME as the client to check that value and inform insurance to decrease the insured amount.

HAVING SAID THAT - they do it automatically for vehicles not stuff like IT related items unless you have some special agreement with your insurance company.

From decades ago. Just random numbers arbitrarily added to "Greg" as a suggestion from Yahoo, I think it was... because Greg had already been taken, obviously.

Stuck with them ever since.

Thats crazy, which insurer is this?

I bought my Iphone 6s Plus for R15k back in 2016 it got stolen 4 years later in 2020. I put in a claim and they told me to choose any phone between R15- R20k since they didnt make or sell iphone 6S anymore.

I send them a quote from istore for an IPhone 11 256GB which was R19k. A week later i had my phone.

i was insured with hollard though, i have since moved to naked.

Wife's iPhone XR very neatly taken out of her bag. They also switched it off or somehow disabled it. She was in Dischem in the Blue Route and watching a presentation on hair products.

She looked at the CCTV recording and you can see her from the side. Someone caused some products to fall from the display. She moved aside and you can see a lady in front jumping from her chair and another reaching under my wife's chair for the her. Its the distraction that does it.

Find my phone shows it is somewhere in Blue Route on the day it was stolen

SAPS were notified and the insurance paid for a new one. The restoral took 55 mins and all 100% now

I dont even bother with a pin code on mine, too much hassle

Thing is how many things you can link up just having access.

Reset accounts, gain passwords.

Contact information could even be abused.

It can go south very quickly in the hands of even the most daft idiot with malicious intent.

I only use WhatsApp on my phone
And I receive OTP's from FNB and TakeAlot
Other than that there is nothing on my phone
The thief will quickly get bored on my phone
Or amused at all my funny stuff in WhatsApp
 
Phone was stolen and switched off. Enabled lost mode from iCloud and left a message saying phone was stolen and to contact me on another number, and to notify me when the phone comes back online. Later that evening I get an email saying the phone had been found. The location at the Taxi rank in Durban. Spoke to someone at a security firm and was advised that it wouldn't be worth going there as the location was picked up and phone was off again. Told me to wait and see if it came back online again. Also advised me that the latest version of iOS would allow the phone to be tracked while offline.

The next day I get a guy phoning me to tell me he found the phone in a taxi and he wanted to do the right thing and return it. Said he was busy at work and would contact me later. Tried calling the number numerous times after but no answer. Strangely after we receive an SMS saying our phone has been found but didn't look like the original one from iCloud. To date phone is offline.

Insurance initially did not want to pay out saying was negligent for leaving phone under car seat and they remote jammed the car. Argued if I was sitting at a bar with it on the counter and they stole it from me then would they pay out. They said yes. In the end they offered R10000 less R3000 for Being negligent.
 
Or just use the "find my iphone" function and send an alert with message that says "This is the property of xyz" - It has a nice beep and everything.

If you cant get SAPS to assist then find a private investigator/security company/guard service who usually know how to handle such things.
