IS Shaping traffic/ Network Problems

*sigh* off to work... somehow doubt to see any improvement when i get home...

Are there any explanations for this or apologies even? Or perhaps a vague ideas as to when it might be fixed?

Maybe they're hoping that we'll get tired of complaining and finally stop complaining altogether and accept this sort of service ? So far the only response has been from Mr. Beep and it hasn't been much of a response at all.

I went on over to OpenWeb's forums to check if they may have some more information on the problem there. All I can say is stay AWAY from those forums, they're spammed to death. Aside from this shaped rubbish service that we're receiving at present OpenWeb does have a history of providing good support and service but their forums are the exact opposite of that.

The problem that we have at present lies with IS and not OpenWeb though, still I'm really disappointed with the lack of response(Feedback, Explanations, Apologies) from OpenWeb, I'd have thought that they'd keep us informed instead of leaving us in the dark like this praying for our service to go back to the way it should be. Seeing that this is a monthly paid service, every hour lost without proper access is money lost to us.

Well i dont think that you can blame mrbeep.. Its not his isp that is shaping the data, and he will keep us updated as he finds more info..

As an end user does it make sense to contact IS directly or do we have to go through our ISP??

Well guys, dont know if I am lucky, but everything is back to normal here on my side, downloads are back to normal speed, and I am a happy camper :D

Big up to Mr.Beep and the kind folks at IS, hopefully it won't go dead any time soon :)

Are those p2p downloads, or http dowbnloads?

Because I've had no problems with http speeds, only p2p.

I'm referring to the IS News Server. I have a 30GB local account with Openweb, so I dont know whether it will be back to normal on intl. p2p and http downloads as well.

for the first time since the IS problems started im getting full speed on news server :)

SA ADSL companies don't apologise, they just expect you to be grateful for whatever they give you.

Hey Friends

I wish I was able to give you more info, but I quite frankly dont have any.

IS are going through the network to establish what is causing the problem.

There has been some major improvements over the last couple of hours, but its not normal just yet.

I kindly request patience, and assure you I will not allow these speeds to become the norm.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Thanks for updating us MrBEEP.

I too am suffering badly, but I don't to make anyone else's problems seem less important. I did a few speed tests within 5 minutes of each other from the same connection. I'll let the results speak for themselves...

ADSL: D: 2048kbps, U: 512kbps (Yup, Telkom decided I may only have half of 4Mbps)
ISP: OpenWeb (3GB Intl + 27GB local) = IS account
Current usage: Still under 3GB so should have full speed Intl.

Right, first up, a speed from IS's site: (http://speedtest-rba.isdsl.net/):
Start Time: 20:03:23
End time: 20:03:25
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 1.9075269699097 seconds
Download Speed: 210 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 1680 kbits/s

...I like, it is nice! :)

Now a speed test from an international site (http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/):

416.1 kilobits per second
Communications 416.1 kilobits per second
Storage 50.8 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 20.2 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad

...Not really happy with this, but it's WAAAY better than THIS:

My current (local) Torrents being downloaded: 6 downloading, 4 uploading, ranging from a small 25MB to a fair 715MB, where I should be getting an average DL of about 100KB/s I'm getting this:
Download average: 5 KB/s
Upload average: 3 KB/s

...Ugh, cough, choke ... die

how incompetent are these people (IS)..if they shaping why cant they just tell us damnit, so we can switch over to the dark side..if not..fix the freakin problem..

If there is an improvement i don't see it... i'm still crawling at 3kbs/5kbs sometimes 8kbs but then it falls to 0kbs and slowly climb back to 3 or 5... this is pathetic!.

It's time that RPM and the MyADSL team did a news article on this. It's now gone beyond the excusable.
