Thanks for posting. This guy also sent me a message asking about my MacBook Air on Gumtree. Unfortunately, I fell victim to someone called Fikeni Masande. Everything looked legit, from the Absa SMS and POP. Anyway, only after I handed over my MacBook to this Fikeni guy did I realize it was a scam, thanks to a Twitter user who posted about this guy. So yeah, I'm quite worked up over losing my MacBook to a scammer, but probably more disappointed in the fact that I fell for it...and the Gumtree scammers strike again.
Put an iPhone SE 128 GB on Gumtree on Friday evening, and less than two hours later, the first scammer contacted me with number 0632032439 / +27632032439.

Not a peep from him again.
Then yesterday, a certain Mark Schoeman ([email protected]) contacted me via SMS as well. His number is 0680574888 / +27680574888.

Of course, no further contact. It's really sad that they still try, because that means there are still people who fall for this.
Why didn't you check your balance? Thanks for posting. This guy also sent me a message asking about my MacBook Air on Gumtree. Unfortunately, I fell victim to someone called Fikeni Masande. I phoned Absa and Nedbank asking about the transfer. Absa said it will reflect the next day due to it being a weekend / Sunday and Nedbank couldn't help me because they said it's up to Absa. Why didn't you check your balance?
I had hawk eyes on my balance and constantly refreshing it. Seeing that I had multiple successful sales on Gumtree it created sense of "trust" - but after today that sense of "trust" has been broken.I phoned Absa and Nedbank asking about the transfer. No money in my account, no goods for you. That's my standard rule.I had hawk eyes on my balance and constantly refreshing it. Seeing that I had multiple successful sales on Gumtree it created sense of "trust" - but after today that sense of "trust" has been broken.
Agreed. That's how I did all my previous sales. Money first, then goodsNo money in my account, no goods for you. That's my standard rule.

This guy has just contacted me for my iPhone on Gumtree. Thanks for the heads upI know there is, i got the proof
I had a Garmin watch on Gumtree and had LOTS of these kind of calls...I only accept cash. If they wanted to send EFT, they would have needed to wait until the money has cleared and none wanted to do that.Someone named "Marius brits" 0659311834 wanted the monitor advertised on gumtree. He made immediate payment from absa to my bank without any confirmation from the bank. He sent pop and sms for that payment too.
The add he gave when asked.... 110 corlet dr melrose arch jhb
He later called that the driver is waiting for pick up the item but I refused and told him the funds are not cleared yet....
