LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Good price. They go for R13k to R14k normally. Reviews seem favourable as well. For my money, for R10k, this would be top of the list. Check hdtvtest.co.uk for a comprehensive review.

If this is in fact the FHD model it is quite a good price.
There is no model number in the ad though, special ends 9 August.

How is that LG doing? I'm very tempted to buy one too. Only thing that I can see about it that is not that great is the 60MHz refresh rate.... have you watched sports on it? Any good?
 
Hi. No problems thus far. Watched world cup on sabc via dstv. Seemed fine.

You'd be better off with the above Samsung. You can't really go wrong with 6 Series LCD, it's a cut above the rest (it's obviously not a plasma though).

There are very few owners of Mecer panels here. Those that have them are happy, but I always wonder what they're comparing against. Surely not a Samsung 6 Series LCD.
 
Incredible connection at Sandton City is having a small clearance sale. I saw a 55" f6800 going for R13999 (or R12999 - should've written it down). The H range is out but this almost R2k off the original price.

This. Mainly cosmetic differences between the EH/F/H yearly models with little picture quality improvement. They're entry level FHD (5 Series) LCDs. If you want something better you'll need to look at 6 Series.
 
I wish I had the budget for the 6 series or beter but that is out of the question. :(

I received a little bonus last week and is busy looking at getting a new tv. Currently have two 32inch LCDs (Sansui in lounge which is busy packing up and Samsung in bedroom).

I am looking at something of at least 40inch. Preferably LCD as i'm unsure about the power consumption and burn in problems with plasma as well as future support with plasma being discontinued. PostmanPot please help me out if you dont mind. :)
Budget is about R5000 to R6000.

Current options I am considering:
40 inch Samsung at Makro - R4699 (UA40EH5000)
50inch Sinotec at Game - R5499

I guess its a case of quality (not that 5 series Sammys are brilliant but surely its better tha Sinotec?) vs size.

I actually read a review last night where some website compared 5 series 40inch against 6 series and the 5 series did better in picture quality. Not so sure about that though. Will see if I can get the link for you.

I see the web is full of reviews for the UE 40EH5000 version as opposed to the UA 40EH5000 version I see available throughout SA.
Are they the same? What the difference between UA and UE models?
