LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Probably the 852x480 resolution model. I'd pass unless you're sitting far away.

Viewing distance will be about 3m.

A friend of mine is looking for a TV with a R6k budget. There will be no DSTV. Only DVDs, watching downloaded series / movies, etc. 3D not required.
She is looking for the best bang for the buck. Room is well lit, but I guess curtains can be closed.

It's worth considering then, but perhaps it's the 1024x768 model which would be better. Otherwise try and go for that.

In terms of size, it'll definitely be bang for buck. If going branded LCD, R6k affords a 40 - 42" (FHD).

Anyone know of a good deal on the PS51F5500 at the moment?

Otherwise, any opinions on this 720p LG set: 50PB560B

I sit about 3.8m from the wall. It's for movies and some PS3 gaming. I don't watch TV from a terrestrial or satellite source. 3D could not be less important.

Tia!

Does anybody own a Hisense tv? Are they any good?
You will probably get a lot of opinions. All I can say is my brother in law bought one and he is very happy. I watched some of the Commonwealth games on it in HD on Supersport and was really impressed. Please note we are just normal TV viewers and not experts. I believe he bought this one:

I had one of the older model 3d lcd units and was very disappointed with the unit. I believe the new units have progressed quite a bit. Be sure to watch examples of what you intend to use it for ie gaming, action movies etc. My unit had a fair bit of streakin? or shuddering on fast moving scenes and playing Gran Turismo on PS3 was a pain.. Lots of ghosting

Which store did you buy it at? Don't they have a 7/14 day return policy?

I purchased it at Game. The dead pixel is on the outskirts of the screen but now that i know its there.. its irritating me :/

Couldn't find anything listed on there website regarding a 7/14 day policy.

Kick up a stink, I'm sure they'll sort you out.

Not seeing it from viewing distance, but knowing it's there, is also enough to throw me off balance.

I thought it was something like 4 stuck/dead pixels to consider it defective??

Take it back to Game..

don't worry about Samsung's policy... you aren't happy with the purchase, Game will replace it or refund you.
