Did some digging and seems like the only difference would be the apps, would definitely want Netflix and HBO.
I read the thread on changing the regions using sounds and IR, frankly it seems daunting and concerned that I would mess it up.
BTW what version of webos do you have on your TV?
My tv is on 04.60.37 and clicked on check for update and it says no update available. When I go onto the LG website and enter the model number it shows 04.62.50 as the latest.
Trust me, it is easy. I did it in 30 seconds.
I have the 720T and can change to US zone anytime, and get into the service menu using an iPhone and an IR led from an old remote. There is no way to stuff it up. Happy to talk you through it anytime.
Leave the firmware alone. The 652/720 are great TV's and very happy with mine. Have Hulu, Netflix, Vudu etc etc working through the wifi router no probs.

I just went to check the Samsung PA60H5000 out at Dion Wired and House & Home.

Got them to run a few sources but primarily DSTV in HD and SD which will be my main source for real life comparison. Excellent picture quality but there is a noticeable reflection as with most plasmas. Have that with my current plasma anyway so not an issue. The pentile display is noticeable up close but from as little as two foot away it disappears. From where this will be viewed this should not be an issue.

I have been weighing this model up vs the LG 55LB720T which was also excellent. What sold the plasma for me was the picture with respect to fast moving sport. I still find the LED to have a trail when watching football or rugby whereas I didnt notice this on the Samsung plasma. Colours also seem richer and more realistic.

So I decided to pull the trigger on the Groupon :whistling:

Exactly. Every time people have asked about this TV, others have warned them about the pentile display. It is, however, a non-issue as you've pointed out.

Enjoy! Last of the FHD plasmas.

Thanks @Williaby makes my decision also a bit easier .... also read up on pentile displays was a bit of a worry , that and the magenta tint but I'm sure for an untrained eye like mine no issues :) , now to wait for my insurance to pay out so I can order this puppy ! Maybe I should just do EFT transaction and pay when I get the money ?

Yeah. Not sure how long this offer is running.

I also did a test where I compared my current plasma, a top of the range 42" Pioneer from 10 years ago, with this one. I have to say that the picture on my current plasma I am still extremely happy with so if I could equal or better the pic slightly I would be happy.

Looked at picture from 30 cm away, then arms length away and compared. From 30cm pentile is noticeable but strangely not that different to the regular RGB config of my current plasma. Then from arms length away I was already able to see a slightly better picture on the Samsung. Also then the overall impression was better. Had the Mrs along for objective view as well and she agreed.

We wanted a bigger screen while bettering or at the very least equaling current picture quality and I think this TV will do it and at that price it is a steal.

Modern plasmas don't require breaking-in, but if you want to, just run brightness/cell light a bit lower for a while.

A bright room isn't necessarily a big issue. Direct sunlight is the bigger issue.

The F8000 plasma is better, perhaps the best plasma on the market.

Edit: When they were still available.
