True. I reckon they're very similar. Sony's at a great price though!
My Sony 42" plasma I bought 6 or 7 years ago bit the big one recently. It makes a clicking noise like its trying to turn on and then nothing happens. I phoned a TV repair place and they told me it would probably cost about 3k to fix.
So based on that I'm in the market for a new TV. Samsung's new range is out in 2 weeks, so I think I'll hang on until then. Should I be getting a plasma or an LED and do you guys have any recommendations on models?

Plasma, unless you have twice the money to spend on higher LCD tech which can compare. Entry plasma > entry LCD.

They LCDs at almost LED pricing.
Yes I know LED is not LED, but the pictures better especially in these cheapy TVs.

That's the lowest price that has been observed fairly regularly at various stores. You will have to check up. I guarantee you it's worth R6,500.

Not true. Perhaps brighter with dynamic contrast leads to it looking better under bright lighting, which sacrifices much detail within colours. Brighter ≠ better.
People need to stop testing TVs from the aisles of Game/Makro.

There isn't one, you have to trust peoples opinions on a forum... you should never go into a TV shop to buy a TV you will only get conned.

A proper AV shop that's dimly lit for starters, and has a test room.

Not true at all, if you hold that belief you're wrong.
It is specifically the mass mart stores that are most often brightly lit.
I should take a pic for you guys of Tafelberg Tokai here in Cape Town. The entire TV section is dimly lit...
Btw, a "TV shop" is what I explained above which tends to be dimmer lit with test room, yet you're trying to use it to counter my example about MASS MART stores (they are not "TV shops") being brightly lit. Go figure. Troll off mate.

It may be well laid out but try getting service, after a 15 min wait it took getting my kids to run around and push buttons to get some attention...

Eish, I can understand that since the salespeople are the guys sitting at the desks. Fewer salespeople on the floor harassing people.

You saying a exact same spec TV, one LCD backlit and one "LED" backlit and the LCD is better?

CCFL is backward technology, just like plasma.

In some circumstances he is correct, the CCFL lighting will be more uniform then the LED one and therefore lead to a picture overall picture. Yes the LED will come with the latest and greatest features but the picture might not be as good if the lighting is not 100% correct.
