That said I am personally leaning towards the Samsung PS51F5500 @ R10000 over the Panasonic... the Samsung's bigger and has much more support countrywide (Something that Panasonic is struggling with of late..)

I had the older Samsung Plasma with that resolution and I was happy with it. I guess I just don't know any better. 
To me overall picture quality and upscaling quality matters more to me than resolution on a set of that size.
Unfortunately 10-11k takes my budget and nukes it from orbit.

Note, two year old model. 30=2011, 40=skipped for bad luck, 50=2012, 60=2013.

Hi Bob - must say despite my conviction for the Samsung FHD Plasma, it's also out of my original budget for a TV.. still trying to figure out which to get....

Don't think they're bought in, maybe a few specialist AV stores could import, but you'll pay dearly.
Eish, that's a pity.. no wonder every one gets Samsung!

Change of topic, my dearest little princess daughters have managed to put a 10cm arc scratch on my plasma screen. Fortunately it is quite low down, but its still visible. i havent touched it yet, so if anyone has any advice before i do, please post it.

Thanks for this info. It is always good to know when you are being screwed.
With this info and Panasonic discontinuing Plasma it is probably a giant, spiked dildo dodged.

Anyone got a Samsung UA55F6800 55" led?
Cheapest I can find is R17100 from a distributor.

If I recall, Makro had the 60" LG Plasma for R9999 a week or 2 back. I have the Smart version, and the picture is great!

Ended up with a UA55F8000 from hirschs boksburg, they were having a birthday sale, R28k with 5yr extended warranty. Considerably more than the planned spend, but it's a super display and I'm happy I got it at a discount.

Need some advice, I intend getting a TV probably a Samsung or LG (LED HD etc) in the next couple of weeks. The viewing distance between couch and TV is about 3.5m, will a 40inch TV be fine or will i need something bigger? Secondly, my budget is R8500, any ideas on best options for this price?

60" might be too large for me, maybe I go for something between 42-47inches? Any ideas on the best tv I can get for this size range, for circa R8500?
