LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Guys I'm looking for a Sammy UA55HU7000 UHD TV in Cape Town for the best price. Any tips on where to look?? Orms has it for R18,100.

The LG 55UB850T that I found for R17,999, looks more stylish and has a few better features, but the samsung's picture is better. Almost nobody seems to stock it in Cape Tow. In Joburg you can get it for R16,900!

Hi guys.

I am going to pull the trigger on a Sammy 48h5500 for R7999 at Makro today. Main use is gaming on Wii and Xbox One.

As far as I know I get the Vox data if I buy before end of April. Is this correct?

Does anyone own a Samsung 55H6203? On special at Game for R9990. Seems a decent deal, was just wondering what the picture quality is like and would there be any motion blur while watching sport?

Govan Mani in Durban are advertising the Samsung UA55HU7000 for R17 999. Saw their ad in the Sunday Tribune yesterday.

Set up TV today and all I can say is wow. I am 100% happy with my purchase. No regrets and for that price it is an absolute bargain!

I was moving from a 42" Pioneer Plasma which was top of the range about a decade ago but had an excellent picture so moving up to 60" I had concerns with loss of picture quality. All I wanted was a comparable picture and I have to say that I was not in the least bit let down here. Picture quality is even better.

The one known downside is glare but for where I have it this is no issue. That is literally the only con I can find.

Those of you that got in on the groupon will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

I doubt that you should have a problem with motion blur.

Not a plasma though. :)

At 270 watts you obviously have shares in Eskom :)

It will take years before a more expensive 60" LCD becomes more cost effective.

The wattage is peak, and besides that, you're looking at R20 - R50 extra per month. Well worth the superior picture quality/experience, and more than likely within the means of those purchasing such a TV.

Agreed. By the time the difference in price between the electricity on this and the purchase price of a 60" LCD with a comparable picture is made up it will be time for a new TV. Quite happy with my decision

Ordered 15 April, dispatched 24 April and arrived 27 April. Not bad with all the public holidays inbetween.

For anyone interested, I saw today that the groupon for the Samsung Samsung PA60H5000 Plasma seems to be on again:

anyone else got an opinion on this?
I am looking to move my current plasma to the bedroom and replace it.
Did some looking today and the UHD tv's are just too expensive. The HD LED's are ok, but im still worried about motion blur. The SAMSUNG UA48H6400 seems pretty good and for just under 10k is probably my other option.

Just wondering how the plasma will compare to it

Price range looking up to 12k or so max

So I ended up buying the LG. I used my own 4K, FHD and HD clips to compare the TVs and the LG imo is tops. What a buy for R18k. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a 55" UHD tv under R20k.
