LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

So I don't want to start for a completely new thread for this but would appreciate if someone could provide some advice on getting a 65" for the living room.

Currently looking at these 2 on takealot:

Price difference is R7k though and I'm leaning towards the SUHD.

65" OLED pricing just seems way out there so I'm not looking at that.
Google seems to suggest that Samsung QLED would be the better alternative but local stockists seem limited and its another jump in price.

Thoughts?

Wait for next week Friday, I know Hirsch's will have some great discounts.

According to these pages the LG's do have HDR10, unless I'm reading something wrong:

There is absolutely no way a Samsung QLED can top any OLED.

You also need to see how Samsung panels display such unnatural colours (greens most of all), but if that’s what you like then sure a Samsung would do.

Pity you missed out on the LG 65C7 on special at makro about 2 months ago. New C8 is like 70% more expensive.

Hope BF/CM gives us big discounts on proper TV’s , I’m needing a top end 75” very soon.

The 65uk6100 does seem to be 10 bit, but it's getting really bad reviews.

The other I can't find any reviews on and taking a look at the website it mentions what it's compatible with not the actual panel bit rate. So I can't really tell. As the Hisense will also say it's got hdr10 on an 8bit frc

Understood, I'm just not keen on spending 40-50k on a TV at this point.

Guess I'll wait and see if anyone does something special on a 65" OLED this weekend.

Look an OLED is a great TV but it has its cons as well. Like the old plasma tech it suffers burn in, the organic part of the led starts to degrade sheet after awhile and it's really expensive. Not to mention it uses a bit more power then an LED.
You'll find that the bang for buck can be found with QLED, ULED and LGs SUHD TVs. Not quite as black as OLED but honestly they'll be close enough you'll not know.
There's also a debate about hdr10 if it really is that big of a deal, especially if the TV is under 1000nits, no studio has even decided on a standard yet either for HDR and there's 12 to 16 bit arriving soon so 10 bit will be obsolete. It's like the old days of the NES game systems :) bits matter but do they matter by 7k?
Get the best TV you can afford.

I wonder whether you can really tell the difference in picture quality between OLED, QLED & LG SUHD if you are watching from the common sources (DSTV, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, occasional download)?

Mostly in the panel type,

OLED is going to have deep blacks, punchy colours and great viewing angles.

QLED uses VA panels which have deep blacks but not as deep as OLED, colours not as punchy as OLED or IPS, viewing angles are not that great, I think QLED tries somewhat to rectify the viewing angle issues.

SUHD uses IPS panel, which don't have deep blacks, you still going see clouding when watching at night but viewing angles are good and colours are punchy.

Think of OLED as the new plasma, it will have the best blacks, better colour (though it can be oversaturated and pop more then realistic levels), best viewing angles but it's not as bright as an LED TV can be, though it should be more so then a plasma ever was. It also suffers from burn in, the pixels can decay as it is organic, there isn't a way to fix that as yet.

So you will probably notice it in dark scenes in a dark room, but if you have a brighter room you'll probably notice the LED LCD may look better in some aspects. HDR actually should look better on an LED as that's where it shines brightness.

The SUHD panels do seem to ghost as well according to reviews, I'm not sure if LG are doing that on purpose though, like look our inferior tech just doesn't cut it like OLED does.

It's probably their quality control because IPS panels rarely have ghosting issues, look at the OLED panels they are supplying phone manufacturers, most of them have issues.
