It's a bit small IMO. Depends though on your room and viewing distances etc. Also weigh up if you need extra features like 200Hz/400CMR and Full HD 3D over the D6000? AFAIK the UA46D6000 is around R10 - R12k, IMO would be good enough and better because of its size. Then there's also the PS51D550 51" FHD plasma for around R9k...

Viewing distance is around 2m, so 40" is the biggest I can use comfortably. The D6000 doesn't have on-board wireless or the 2D to 3D converter,,.. And is about 2k cheaper. I'd rather go top-end 40" 3D for my gaming rig. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these, since I have read a bit about the D6000 from these posts & not much about the D6600

And I'm upgrading from a UA40C5000QRXXA which was perfect at close viewing from about 1m

My parents want to get a new TV. Samsung or LG, preferrably Samsung. Full HD and LED backlit necessary. 46" or higher required. The room is quite large, about 7mx7m so bigger is better, but with cost not more than R15k, preferrably closer to R10k. Doubt they will be able to get a larger size than 46" for that. What are the current decent deals?

are brands like hi-sense and sinotec/sinqtec worth saving the money for, or is the picture qulaity worse

Unless you are a fanatic purist, they are fine, usually backed with better warrantess than the brands for some reason or another.

It depends. While they may be fine for most people who don't care much about detail and just want a flat wide screen HDTV, your discerning enthusiast would be able to tell a difference for sure.

What are you to be using it for? Cheapies are known for:

-Lack of motion handling
-Lack of advanced menu settings like unlocking PC Mode etc.
-Lack of HD media players
-Poor SD content performance
-False product specs like advertised as Full HD, but actually not 1920x1080 physical pixels.

That said, when connected via HDMI to a quality source like 720p, cheapies aren't too bad.

I suppose their 2 - 3 - 5 year warranty is one of their main selling points, besides price. This may suit you.

Salesmen will also use the "they use Samsung panels" tactic which is misleading.

Also possibly the biggest concern of mine is that the cheapies aren't actually as cheap as they used to be in comparison to branded sets...

The cheapies are still quite cheap especially for the larger sizes. Makro has the Sinotec 55" Full HD LCD for R9999. Similar price to what I paid for a 47" a couple years back. I think Game also had a special on the Telefunken 55" Full HD LED for R11999 a couple weeks back.

I was happy with the 47" Sinotec for the 6 months that I had it. It did have PC mode and 1920x1080 pixels. I used it as a permanent PC screen though. The current 55" cheapies look like decent deals. For about R10k you still can get a huge TV with better quality than the top brands had a few years ago. My next TV will most likely be a 55" and thus one of the cheaper brands. Samsung and the like are too expensive once you go above 46".

Is this a good deal?

Samsung UA40C7000 40" FULL HD 3D LED TV Price R3,999

I'll take one for that price.

By the way. Dion Wired has the Samsung 46" Full HD 3D LED for R10000. Comes with 4 free pairs of 3d glasses. If I was buying now I'd go for that. Special ends on the 27th.

When are the 2012 Samsung models coming into the country?
