LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

They are based in CT. Tel 021 510 6390. You can speak to a guy called Johan.

They had 5 of these sets and I was lucky enough to get it on Saturday, but were sold out after I left. Don't know when they will be getting stock again.

Hi All,

I'm in the market for a new TV after I was relieved of my previous 42" LCD Sansui during some affirmative shopping.

I will use it for playing PS3, DSTV with a HD PVR, and streaming donwloaded content to my PS3 from my PC.

Budget is R13 000
Viewing distance is 2-3m

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice everybody.

Got myself the Panasonic TH-P50U30Q over the weekend for a fraction of the price Audiovision has it advertised.

Looks great. Now to put the screen through its paces.

Congrats on your new buy. Enjoy it! Great TVs Pana are. You have it for a good price. The previous one for 42" was just crazy. I have not seen it my self. Just from curiosity, how do you find the reflection on the screen compared to that rubbish Samsung D550.

The room has black painted walls and gets a little bit of sun late in the afternoon, so reflection is a non issue for me. Glad I got the Pana instead of the Sammy.

Currently busy with the "break-in" period. Once finished gonna do some serious gaming. SD content looks great.

Hi,

Does anybody know the difference between the samsung e450 and the d450 series? As far as I can tell the e450 has a "Real Black" engine and the d450 the "HyperReal", but I don't know what the difference is and can't find any info.

I don't know the real differences, but the A, B, C, D and E represent the year ... and not the series.

The E's have just been released (2012) and the D's are now last years and are either on special to clear stock, or will be shortly

Hi guys,

I am looking for a TV that is going to be used only as a TV and nothing more. The viewing distace is 2 metres. I have read here on my broadband that Samsung LA32D550 is a decent TV, at Game they have it for R3449. Now there is also Sony 40" FHD LCD TV for R4399 at Game. For a budget of R3000 to R4500, which tv would you recommend? Is Samsung LA32D550 the best option over the Sony 40"?

What sort of TV?

Sorry, I do not understand your question, what do you mean? If this helps: I just wanted something of a decent quality in the price range.

Ok. Some people here use their Samsung LA32D550 as a PC monitor. I meant the TV I want is going to be used for home viewing only and nothing more (not as a computer monitor).

Will extend then. Got the 46" version of exactly the same Sammy model in the lounge. Used for TV.
Still an awesome device.

I understand what you mean. There are different types of "TV"/transmissions/sources though, with different qualities like resolution, aspect ratio, reliance on good motion processing, etc. So while you are buying your TV for home viewing, you will be using it for certain types of viewing which can effect the decision you make based on pros and cons of certain techs/models in relation to what you will be using the TV for. We want to get you the best for your situation that suits your type of viewing, pocket, room conditions, etc.

So can you please elaborate on what you will be using the TV for. You can also tell us the room's lighting conditions - is it very bright? Bright (sunlight) during viewing hours? Curtains?

Congrats man! Anything more than 40" won't work for me, unfortunately there is not enough space for that. I am happy though to hear that you are happy with your device. Perhaps if they had 40" of the same device then one might reconsider the budget;).
