LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Can't the mods of this section maybe tighten up on this? Perhaps even move the OT posts to a Plasma vs LCD / LED thread or something. Who's meant to be the mod around here anyway?

This is the LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread. The reason that it is not the LCD and Plasma Bargains thread is because all previous ones ended in discussions. It's inevitable. :D

My advice is to either join in or move on. Discussing is far more productive that complaining.

Is there any possibility this thread could focus on LCD & Plasma bargains rather than serve as a platform for these petty personal feuds? Originally Posted by akescpt

There are actually a few of these threads going now that are supposed to be aimed at gadget or TV bargains, but have deteriorated.

The op can link to the threads arguing the technologies so those that are interested can go read them. Personally I don't care for anything other than LCD/LED TVs and would like to keep monitoring this thread for related bargains.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but is there a difference between the 2011 and 2012 Samsung Plasmas (ie the D vs E series)? Is there a change in the anti-reflective tech at all?

That's the Samsung PS43D490 for R5599.99 from Hirsch

Game has the Samsung PS43E490 with 2x 3D Glasses and 3x 3D Movies for R5999

Good price then considering Real Black should improve the picture quality in lessening reflections.

PS42B450, PS42C450, PS43D450/490 have all been epic TVs, so you can't go wrong if you've researched it.

True the E Series aadd's Real Black and Some SMART TV functionality Ethernet LAN also includes 2x 3D Active Glasses :D

Only the E490 only has the ethernet LAN or 3D. It also has a swivel stand.
PS43E490 Has 3D and Ethernet LAN with All Share, but no swivel stand.
Interesting it's Power Economy Class C using 115W while powered on and <3W in Standby
Look's like one very neat Plasma.
Does it offer the same Burn In Protection with Real Black as the PS43D490 did ??

It does have a swivel stand. At least the one I saw in Game over the weekend did.

It's a definite!

That's an excellent power rating. Here's compared to my 2010 PS42C450:

Power

Power supply: AC100 - 240V 50 / 60Hz
Power consumption (Max): 200Watts
Power consumption (stand-by): under 0.3Watts
Peak Luminance Ratio 70%
Power Consumption (IEC 62087 Edition 2): 135Watts

It does have a swivel stand. At least the one I saw in Game over the weekend did.
Okay, Cool ! Then the Samsung Specs are wrong about, which they sometimes are ! Very Handy the Swivel Stand.
Any Difference between PS43E490 B1W and B1R Spec ? Can't see any on Samsung Africa Website.

Was at the Canal walk store, would expect them to get pretty quickly if there is stock in the country, but then again, who knows. I like the price they quoted you better ;)

Turns out we should just merge the sales weasels for the correct info, they are now in stock at R8k.

As for the sales staff, on being asked why the Panasonics are so thick compared to the Samsungs, answered, well, it is the software, erm the hardware. Then I stopped listening...

Would have preferred R7k, but R8k for a full hd plasma isn't bad.
