So most E550/E8000 owners (I'l leave out the LCD/LED owners to make it simple) sit further than 3m away and are thus suckers for spending more than what a HDR costs?

I'm also impressed with it, I have a 51d550 and I'm not sure if the extra money for the full hd is really worth it.

Perhaps they have the budget for a 40" LCD and sit 3-4m+ away, but are worried about the 1080p marketing they're being pressured into as laymen and non-owners.

I'm sure they can, but your question is not analysing the point I'm making which strongly focusses on viewing distance, which you seem to be missing.

No I'm not, I disagree with you assumption that everyone with a 1080p TV sits beyond the range where FHD is perceivable/of benefit.

I am certain that some people are able to tell the difference between HD ready and HD.
My opinion though is that the difference is small enough at the normal viewing distance that it does not take away from the viewing enjoyment.

If you are a tech head then all the extras in the HD version will certainly draw you to that but if you are looking for a great tv for a very low price you wont be disapointed in the 51e450.

if you are looking for a great tv for a very low price you wont be disapointed in the 51e450.

Agreed, my issue is with certain HDR TV owners trying to make it sound like there is no substantive benefit in purchasing costlier higher-fidelity TVs, implying those that do are uninformed suckers.

To me it just comes across like they have a chip on their shoulders, begrudging those that can afford the more expensive higher-spec models.

Govan Mani (durban shop) have the 46" 5 series going for R6999 and a 40" 6 series going for R5999. I like the larger screen

Don't need a smart TV or 3D, and don't want plasma. Won't be watching any sport, mainly series, a bit of Xbox, Discovery.

Perhaps they sit outside the range to determine HD/FHD. Perhaps their choice is 51" HDR plasma vs 40" LCD based on price. 51" HDR plasma would be a far wiser investment based on their longer viewing distance alone (without even getting into the plasma providing better PQ).

Not at all, they just understand viewing distance's effect on FHD/HD etc. In other words, they don't sit close.

I just got a question regarding the es series.

I am planning on buying the es6200 but is this tv FULL HD 3d? like the es6600 and what is the difference in 3d performance and has someone noticed any clouding on the es6200?

What will be the best size tv if i sit about 2m from my tv.

Please help... i know the es6600 has micro dimming and cmr500 but will this be noticible difference?

Most middle-upper class South African homes I've been to have viewing distances longer than 3-4m.

I think you're mixing up the previous argument about IR. This is about 51" HDR plasma, which happens to currently be at the price point of 40" LCD. Now add in the viewing distance of potential buyers, perhaps they sit at 3-4m. 51" HDR would provide a superior experience, and they probably won't be able to tell the difference between HDR/FHD at their long viewing distance.

Both are separate issues. "Not from 3-4m" accounts for most people's inability to tell a difference at distance. The second, "...I've been to..." accounts for average viewing distance in my experience.

No it's not, it's based on most people not being able to tell a difference after a certain distance, and secondly they may indeed sit outside that distance. Never was it denied they could tell a difference at the correct distance.

Too big for the enclosure. I have enough experience with friends' in any case. I am not bringing my personal opinion into this, it's a fact there is a point at which most people are unable to tell a difference.
