I think the 51D550 is going to be on special at game tomorrow. I saw a huge batch at a store earlier but no price...

Hope it's okay to paste this here, didn't want to start a new thread for something so minor.

Got a SAMSUNG TV 32" LCD LA32C530 and am tried to upgrade the firmware before I really start putting things together. I got the T-TDT5DEUC firmware from the Samsung site, ran the installation which extracted a folder and files to my USB stick. Inserted stick into TV and tried to upgrade software, only for it to tell me it can't find any firmware to install. I tried moving the files to the root but that didn't do the trick either.

What does the new firmware add that is missing from your current? :p

Overclocking abilities :-P

Point taken, I guess I just thought it best to be up to date in case there are any glitchy software issues and perhaps they update the media player codecs.

Yes, I've found with most devices upgrading your firmware can just introduce a bunch of new bugs. Unless there is something specific that the new firmware addresses or a great new feature is added, its not really necessary to update it.

Hi

New World in Menlyn has the Samsung 40'' LCD LA40D550 for R5999.

Been looking for a new TV. I am kind of stuck at what to go for. The thing is, my current TV location will not allow for a TV larger than 40-42'' (100cm horizontal total physical size).
I will be moving to a new house next year, where this TV will then become a secondary one (kids room / etc).
I am also really looking for DLNA functionality.

I will mostly be watching TV / movies (Bluray mkv) from my home server. Perhaps some gaming from PC.

What do you guys think?

I am pretty sure you can get that TV for R5000 elsewhere. It is often on special at places like Game and Makro. Also try Catsdigital and fotodiscountworld - both have websites with prices.

Seems it'd just fit at 98cm width. Pity you have to be limited by the location though, e.g. Samsung PS51D450 51" plasma is also R5,999.

I'd say go with it if you cannot go more than 100cm.

R4,999 was the Walmart special price which ended a while ago. It's now R5,500 - R5,999.

why not wait till you move into a new place?

Hi

thanks for the replies!

Well, my current Tv is really old now. Also will need to buy a similar TV for the new house ini anycase, so figured that I might as well get one now :)

Anyone using the network for DLNA features?
Does it indeed work well to stream MKV from a home server?

Anyone have one of these it is now R5700 at Foto Discount World
SAMSUNG LED 40c5000 FULL HD SERIES 5
I presume it is a 2010 model

I have also been looking at this one from Game
LG 3D plasma 42PW350 for R4999

http://www.game.co.za/RapidCat/game/rsa/pages/page-16.jpg

LED backlit LCD is indeed the 2010 model. 50Hz entry level. I'd say the 2011 LA40D550 CCFL backlit LCD at around the same price is better.

Not sure about the LG plasma. Sounds like a good deal, if you're looking for 3D on a budget. Samsung's non 3D PS43D450 is the same price and a definite winner.

Or PS51D450 51" for R5,999... ;)

Thanks for the advice. I almost got the PS51D450 51" this past weekend at game for R6500. Do you know where it is going not for R5999?

Also I had the older 40A550 - do you know in terms of using the LA40D550 for gaming would it be ok as I did not enjoy gaming 40A550 due to the refresh rate.
